NLQ Question of the Week: Why Worship Baking Your Own Bread?

This is a new series we have started running on Thursdays. Examining some of the questions involving long held Quiverfull theology and life. One of the things we're run across again and again in both former fundamentalist post-religion narratives and within the active Quiverfull world is a strange emphasis on baking bread for your family from scratch. During my years in a funda-gelical church I participated in it too. But I never knew why we were doing it. People talked about their bread, humble-bragged about their bread, shared their extra bread and recipes and at our church newcomers were all giving a fresh loaf of home baked bread to welcome them to our fellowship. Bread loomed large … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: The HPV Vaccine Gives Girls Permission to Have Sex?

by Steven L. Anderson from Faithful Word Baptist Church - Physicians of No ValueEditor's note: Regardless of how you line up on the to vaccinate or not vaccinate debate it's a stretch at best to say that vaccinating a child against a possible future STD is giving them carte blanche to go out and start having piles of promiscuous sexual activity with anything or anyone. NLQ Question of the Week: Why is Modern Medicine Denigrated?

This is a new series we have started running on Thursdays. Examining some of the questions involving long held Quiverfull theology and life. We've all seen the Quiverfull families that refuse all modern medicine, sometimes with rather dire consequences. I'm thinking of a lady at my former church that had a very treatable form of cancer yet refused all treatments because she believed that medicine was idolatry and that God would heal her. She's been six feet under for quite some time now, dying in horrible agony. Her husband took the insurance money from her death to buy a yellow Corvette, and marry a much younger better looking woman after the death of his wife. … [Read more...]
