Quoting Quiverfull: Part 2 – A Woman’s Submission Determines Her Husband’s Success?

by Lori Alexander of Always Learning - Are You Preventing Your Husband's Success?Editor's note: I'm afraid this isn't any better than yesterday's bit. She's still venturing into legal territory she has no business in. You cannot refuse to hire someone merely based on how their marriage appears to you from the outside. Interviewing people who know the family is pretty extreme and invasive. They might check the applicant's social media accounts, but not everyone in the family. She claims this is what large corporations does. No, no they do not. They may run psychological testing, such as a personality test to determine your honesty levels or to make sure you are emotionally stable. Some … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: GPS Is A Sin?

Heard on the radio from an unknown Independent Fundamentalist Pastor while driving through West Virginia. Paraphrased from a random radio sermon.Editor's note: Heard this yesterday while traveling through a remote rural part of West Virginia. Didn't catch the name of the pastor or his church, just that he was an IFB pastor holding tent revivals. His sermon touched on some pretty silly things, but claiming it is a sin to use a GPS because they are programmed with a woman's voice and a woman should never tell a man what to do took his sermon from charmingly goofy and quaint to fundy crazytown. Heaven forfend he might actually have to be the patient of a woman doctor or need real help from … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Defining Manhood by Submission?

Answering “Preparing To Be A Help Meet” – How Does Submissive Wife Translate From Girlfriend?

Another installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical, rational and the best possible solution, in other words 18 … [Read more...]

Introduction to the Review Series – “Lies Women Believe”

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Defeating The Dragon How to Win Over Depression and Redeeming Love were neck-and-neck in the last poll I did, but since my friend Dani Kelley is doing a review of Redeeming Love, I decided that my next review series would be the runner-up: Nancy Leigh DeMoss’ Lies Women Believe and the Truth that Sets them Free. In the comments, a lot of you mentioned how toxic this book was for you both personally and in your marriages. I received it as a gift when I was still at Pensacola Christian, and I remember feeling vaguely uneasy about it, although at the time I chalked up that reaction to “being convicted.” … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Honoring Men By Submission?

by unknown from The Sunshine Thiry Blog - What Would It Look Like For Christians To Honor Husbands And Fathers?Editor's note: Another of Biblical Gender Roles female submission enforcer friends that says what he wants to hear. The scary thing is that at his own site BGR seems to be hinting at moving in the direction of Christian Domestic Discipline aka spanking your wife. Also both he and this lady are pals of MRA promoting blogger Dalrock. BGR is moving closer to the realm of Men's Rights Activists and their harmful ideas of what constitutes a marriage - total slavery of the wife. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Patriarchy Means Treating Your Wife Like Fine China?

by Greg Gibson from John Piper's The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood - Building a Marriage Culture | Husbands Honor Your WivesEditor's note: I don't know about anyone else here but I have zero desire to be treated like fine china. Fine china stays in the china cabinet unused and completely out of the loop most of the time. It doesn't have free agency, it's protected in a stifling manner that doesn't allow for any life and it cannot move or be used unless the owner deems it to be. Too delicate to be of any practical use in the day to day. An object. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: What it Means to Be Biblically Submissive?

Found on Minthegap (Is This Modest.com Adam Gregorin) blog leading to Ken Ham's Answers In Genesis - A Girl Named RuthEditor's note: Ham complains that most Christian children's books depict the mother with the open Bible reading to the children. This is because even in those 'sold-out' Quiverfull Evangelical Fundamentalist extremist homes the fathers don't do reading to the children, or anything involving teaching or homeschooling. It's a realistic depiction. Perhaps you need to teach your wonderful Christian males that they need to parent too before blaming it on feminism or overbearing women. … [Read more...]

A Close Look at the Complementarian Argument

by Kristen Rosser cross posted from her blog Wordgazer's Words Complementarianism and the Local Church is an article by Jonathan Leeman on the 9 Marks website, which is a conservative evangelical site dedicated to "help[ing] pastors, future pastors, and church members see what a biblical church looks like, and to take practical steps for becoming one."  The site has published a series of articles on male headship, and the arguments are pretty much the same ones my various blog posts have rebutted though the last several years.  But this one, which seems to be an introduction to its male headship series, was brought to my attention on another blog, and I'd like to take a closer look at what i … [Read more...]

You Will O-bey, Or You Will Be Exter-minated

by Living Liminal cross posted from her blog Living LiminalOk, so the truth was bound to come out sooner or later... I have to confess to being a bit of a geek... just a bit...And so inevitably I couldn't help but discern the similarity between the Daleks' mantra of 'obey or be exterminated' and the 'submit or be excommunicated' way of operating espoused by some christians. Christians and Daleks with so much in common! Who would have thought? See what I did there ;) … [Read more...]
