Is God to Blame For the Weather?

snow

by Bruce Gerencser cross posted from his blog The Way ForwardHere in rural NW Ohio, we are having a memorable winter. Record snowfalls, record lows, just the kind of weather global warming deniers love to see. There is a long-term drought in places like California and Arizona, and many places across the globe are recording record high temperatures and record high low temperatures. (the low temperatures are much higher)  Floods, tornadoes, cyclones, hurricanes, high winds, no winds, lots of rain, no rain, ice, sleet, snow, freezing rain, lightning, droughts, heat waves, record highs, record lows, along with periods of perfect, wonderful, low humidity, temperatures…just right days. The only … [Read more...]

by Pat Robertson from The Raw Story transcript of 'The 700 Club" television show Tuesday, January 7th, 2014, a day when most of the United States is shivering under an Arctic Vortex. “The inconvenient truth is it’s getting cold,” Robertson said, riffing off the title of Al Gore’s climate change documentary. “And some parts of America are colder than Mars! Why? We’ve got a special story today about how come we could very well be entering another little ice age.” … [Read more...]

False Dichotomies: “Homeschooled Girls vs. Feminists”

homeschooledgirls

by Samantha Fields cross posted from her blog Defeating the Dragons So, Robert Knight, an extremely conservative writer for Townhall and whose articles occasionally appear in publications like the Washington Times, wrote an article last Tuesday called “Homeschooled Girls vs. Feminists.” Since the article spends most of its time talking about grown women, I have to admit to some mild annoyance to the persistent infantilization of women in conservative circles. College-aged females are women, thank you. … [Read more...]

by Bruce Gerencser cross posted from his blog The Way Forward(Editorial note: Those that might post comments here to Bruce suggesting spiritual things should read this first, another excellent post by Bruce.)Recently, our youngest son moved out and he left behind some trading cards for our grandson. He had hundreds of trading cards, including some from Answers in Genesis. I am not sure how old these card are, but I suspect they are at least 15 years old. I did not know these cards were in the box and my oldest son found them when he was going through them with our grandson.  We had a lot of fun … [Read more...]

An Average Homeschooler: Introduction

by Samantha cross posted from her blog Defeating the Dragons  [me, the first year I was homeschooled]   I’ve been avoiding writing about this. Even once I started planning out the series, I debated with myself for weeks over whether or not I wanted to write it out– and then post it. I’ve talked a lot about some of the other aspects of growing up in fundamentalism, but I’ve avoided talking about my experience with homeschooling for a few reasons. I’ve touched on it a few times, and I’ve even written posts for Homeschoolers Anonymous and for Leaving Fundamentalism. Even as I wrote those posts, I was hesitant about sharing them here, although I did eventually. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Under State Authority?

Quotes1-300x250

by Cindy from Get Along Home - You Want a Christian Nation? Christian public school parents, your children are not under your authority. If you think they are, try walking into their classrooms unannounced and directing them to do jumping-jacks all the way out the door to the car. Not only would you be escorted from the premises for disrupting class, your child herself would look at you as if you were insane, and then she would disobey you. Instead, she’d look to her teacher to get her out of this crazy situation. … [Read more...]
