Quoting Quiverfull: Early Marriage Best For Christians?

younglove

by Justin Deeter from Ladies Against Feminism and JustinDeeter.comInterestingly enough, while Mr. Deeter makes a few good points on why he believes Christians should marry young he does eventually move on to Von Ohlman's reason for marrying young: keeping you from falling in/on someone you're not married to's vagina/penis. It really does always boil down to sex with the patriarchy crowd.  … [Read more...]

Brave New Life: Part 3 The Other Shoe Drops

sadmother

by Melissa cross posted from her blog Permission To LiveThis post is part of a series, click here to start with the introduction. We’d been putting in applications for weeks and not having much luck. It wasn’t really surprising, after growing up the way I did, and then having 4 kids I had basically no resume, and Haley’s was entirely ministerial stuff and we couldn’t exactly list them as a reference. We were also in the middle of changing addresses on everything, and getting all of our other paperwork in order. I passed a local coffee shop and noticed a hiring sign in the window, so I printed out my sad little resume and dropped it off. … [Read more...]

News: Jack Schaap Trying To Squirm Out Of Sentence

While dress codes are not the issue in the Jack Schaap conviction the same attitudes of sexualizing a teenager and trying to blame her for his own attitudes towards her are the same.

Now Jack Schaap is claiming that he was improperly represented by his legal staff at his trial for violation of the Mann Act and sex with an underaged girl. Schaap is claiming his attorneys promised him a sentence of no more than ten years, yet the judge gave him twelve years. It was fully within the rights of the judge to decide the length of the sentence regardless of what prosecutors  or defense team members asked for as a sentence. … [Read more...]

CTBHHM: Sexual Intercourse = Our Relationship With Jesus

created

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love, Joy, FeminismCreated To Be His Help Meet, pp. 171—173This week’s section brought up a lot of fairly random thoughts for me. For instance, is possible that the Pearls’ discussion of sex as “holy” has helped some couples get over the sexual hangups they’ve developed from years of seeing sex as sinful and wrong? (I actually think yes.) And, is Debi printing letters she actually received, or is she making them up to illustrate her points? (I really really want to know this!) But perhaps most importantly of all, am I the only one disturbed by the idea that God designed sex between a man and a woman to be an illustration of his relationship wit … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Sexlessness and the Single Woman?

cagedlion

by Colleen Chao from Ladies Against Feminism and True Woman - Sexual Desire and the Single Girl Imagine keeping a lion in a small cat-carrier. For years. Day after day. Night after night. He roars. He eats. (A lot.) His energy is endless. And yet you keep him caged. If sex is the highest good in life, the greatest pleasure we can experience, we're in trouble. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Why is it Always Extremes? Where’s the ‘Middle Ground’ in Patriarchy?

"Pride and Prejudice"s unmarried sisters

by Russell D. Moore as posted at Ladies Against Feminism and Moore to the Point - What I've Learned in Twenty Years of Marriage.Russell actually makes some decent points about marriage in this piece. But he also illustrates the black and white thinking of many in the Evangelical church. I knew on our first date that I loved her and wanted to spend my life with her. But many told us, “Wait until you can afford it before you get married.” It’s true. We had … [Read more...]

Brave New Life: Part 1: Into the Unknown

by Melissa cross posted from her blog Permission to LiveThis post is part of a series. Click here to read the introduction.Like I said in my coming out series, when at the end of 2011, we had realized that transition was going to happen, and that our beliefs were not really fitting in the church we were serving anymore, we knew we needed to move on. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: “Making” Yourself Pleasant?

makingbeautiful

by Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies - A Beautiful Word One of the beautiful Hebrew words in the Bible is ta' anuwg and it means "delightful, lovely, precious, cherished, pleasant." This word is used in three different ways about family life.1) The love of a husband and wife. In Song of Solomon 7:6 NLT the husband says to his wife, "Oh, how beautiful you are! How pleasing my love, how full of delights!" Why is she so delightful? Because she takes time to make herself delightful and pleasant to her husband. … [Read more...]

News: Duggars Dealing With Bill Gothard Fallout

jessaseawald

Jezebel.Com has written a horribly funny but thought-provoking  piece on the changes through the years in the Duggar family along with how they are answering the criticisms for following Bill "Grabby Hands" Gothard - How are the Duggars dealing with the Gothard Sex Scandal? So, what follows may be the greatest Duggar based conspiracy theory that you've read this month. Ok, it's not that great but it's a theory. Now, it is well known among Gothard's that the kind of crunchy, curly home-permed hair favored by Michelle and the clan in the early season is based on preferences of Gothard, who loved long, wavy womanly hair and damn the woman who does not possess sacred this crown. Now it may … [Read more...]
