It’s Not That Complicated: Part 1 Chapter 7

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideQuotes from the book appear in blue text.Chapter 7 is titled "The Heart: Victim or Perpetrator - Getting Your Heart to Follow You".This chapter crystallizes a market-share problem that the Botkin Family hasn't quite solved yet.  The number of people who are willing and able to buy a Christian Patriarchy book is a set, limited market. To get the best returns on the investment in the book, the Botkins need to attract as many sub-divisions of the Christian Patriarchy, Quiverfull and Christian Homeschooling groups as possible.  The Botkin Sisters' first book "So Much More" was published in 2005 … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 3 – Beat Your Lying Liar Child?

by Michael Pearl from No Greater Joy – The Selfishness of a Tender HeartEditor's note: Notice that the words spanking or a little switching never appeared anywhere in this piece. Only the Pearl euphemisms that mean the same thing - training and discipline. I suspect that he rarely uses the correct words for his type of toxic discipline because of some of his followers like the Schatzs and the Williams. Protect the brand and revenue stream above all else no matter what their advice is doing to the children of their followers. … [Read more...]

A Story of Becoming Sick

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Samantha P Field.comEditor's note: One of the big things that seems to happen if you're a woman that leaves Quiverfull is that many seem to physically fall apart, experiencing ill health and a wide variety of problems with their immune systems. Because of the mind set in extreme Christianity being ill is viewed many times as a moral failing, adding guilt to the physical misery. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Does This Man Really Exist?

by Colin Campbell from Meat For Men - The Qualities of FatherhoodEditor's note: Nancy's husband Colin is now writing down the qualities a father  should have, which happen to be the exact same qualities listed in the Bible for leaders. Do guys like this really exist in complementarianism communities? … [Read more...]

Answering “Preparing To Be A Help Meet” – Touching Before Marriage?

Another installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical,  rational and the best possible solution, in other words 1 … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 3 – Nip What In The Bud?

by Debi Pearl from No Greater Joy - Nip It In The BudEditor's note: Somehow Debi manages to get to the end of this piece without advocating beating the child severely. But she doubles down on the toxic 'be happy' crap she peddles. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 2 – Nip What In The Bud?

by Debi Pearl from No Greater Joy - Nip It In The BudEditor's note: So apparently the times the father tried to ask the kid to run along weren't good enough, even if this is part of what Debi is saying that the father should have done. And those strings she's referring to being tied at the end of this piece? Something called 'strings of fellowship' Bizarre. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 1 – Nip What in the Bud?

by Debi Pearl from No Greater Joy - Nip It In The BudEditor's note: Another you're doing parenting wrong piece from the Pearls. In this one they condemn a man for beating his son. I cannot for the life of me figure out why the parent didn't diffuse the situation by taking an action like picking up the toddler after the first or second time he kicked the adult visitor, or by stopping to tell the child at that exact point to knock it off in a friendly manner. Why are all parenting interactions so extreme in Pearl world? I also question the validity of the story just from the physical difficulty of kicking and waving handfuls of rock in the air at the same time. That toddler must have had … [Read more...]
