Quoting Quiverfull: Government Is Pushing Transgender On Teens?

quotingquiverfull

by Rev. James David Manning from Atlah World Missionary Church as quoted by Raw Story - NY Pastor "Justin Bieber is trans and 'cut off his breasts' because Obama's 'evil spirits' mislead himEditor's note: This pastor keeps popping up on national media in his competition with Steven L. Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church for the strangest fundamentalist Christian conspiracy theories. Here he blames transgenderism on the president. While this isn't really a QF issue necessarily it does neatly dovetail with those in the Quiverfull movement that are trying to demonize transgendered people, like Michelle Duggar and others more mainstream. This conspiracy theory is a little extra crazy … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Michael Pearl’s Puberty

quotingquiverfull

by Michael Pearl from his book "Created To Need A Help Meet" and cross posted from Aletha's blog Yllom Mormon (Molly's Evil Twin)Editor's note: I was going to do another chapter of Nancy Campbell's 'Be Fruitful and Multiply' book today but I seem to have misplaced that dreadful tome. Instead here's what Michael Pearl had to say about his puberty! It's pretty frightening. Aletha is doing a review of his book CTNAHM at her blog, it's right on the money. I need a different graphic for this, something like a dropped and shattered coffee cup because this is pretty bad.  … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Emotions and Thoughts Are Sin Too?

quotingquiverfull

by John Piper from Desiring God and Council on Biblical Manhood & Womanhood tweeted and then deleted. From Spiritual Sounding Board's Facebook page.Editor's note: One of the most poisonous teachings in the world of both Quiverfull and Evangelical Christianity is that your own feelings and emotions are a sin. They take the notion that anything you think or feel is sinful when if you take an objective look at the Ten Commandments all of the rules stem from actions, not thoughts or emotions. Demonizing emotion is a good way to ensure your flock stays feeling guilty at all times and firmly under the control of the cult leader. … [Read more...]

Why I Can’t Go To Christian Conferences

Image by Kristen Rosser from Wordgazer's Words

by Kristen Rosser cross posted from her blog Wordgazer's Words Canadian author and Christian blogger Sarah Bessey wrote on her blog this week a piece called In Which I Have All the Feelings About Conferences.  Here are some of the things she said: Conferences are the new church planting phenomenon: everyone wants to do it. Everyone thinks theirs is different. Everyone thinks they’ll be the real voice of Jesus or the one to reach their generation. We’ve got a niche for you! conferences for everyone! you get a conference! and you get a conference! and you get a conference! but part of me doesn’t like conferences – not as a model, not as an experience, let alone as a method for real and lastin … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Should There Be Rules Governing Public Access For Un Vaccinated Children?

quotingquiverfull

by Matt Walsh from The Matt Walsh Blog - So Should We Just Round Up The Anti-Vaccine Parents And Ship Them To Guantanamo? (Don't be afraid to click on the link as we always use 'Do Not Link' on Matt's blog, but be prepared for a huge number of pop up ads.)Editor's note: Since the exposure of unvaccinated children and adults at Disneyland to someone with an active case of measles leading to a spreading outbreak of a disease thought to be eradicated years ago there's been much talk of isolating those without the vaccination.  Many physicians offices, schools and other public places are starting to ban the unvaccinated. The Anti-Vaxxer movement is firmly entrenched in the world of QF and E … [Read more...]

“Zimzum of Love” Review: 1-43, “Responsive”

zimzum

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Defeating The Dragons Honestly, I’m still not really clear on the zimzum part of this book. Rob and Kristen seem to have connected with the metaphor strongly, but I’m not finding in it everything they did. I’m not sure how Rob was introduced to the concept, since what I can find has it appearing in Life of Pi and Kaballah, and Rob says it comes from “the rabbinic tradition.” I know I have Jewish readers, so if you could help me out with where this term comes from that would be spectacular. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 1 – Marriage is the Best Context For Human Development?

quotingquiverfull

by Michael Pearl of No Greater Joy - Marriage is God's Finishing SchoolEditor's note: While I think it's a given that marriage does force you to mature and develop in ways you might not have as a single person it's unlikely that Michael Pearl and most everyone else have ideas even in the same wheelhouse about marriage. Your thoughts? … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Seductive Women Are As Bad As Male Rapists?

quotingquiverfull

Good catch by Calvinist Janeway! She posted this on her blog Explorations in Egalitarianism - John Piper, Rape, Seduction, and Sin Leveling The quote is something that was tweeted by John Piper of  Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood.Editor's note: Piper deleted this shortly after posting it on Twitter. He must have gotten some well-deserved fundigelical push back over this idea that somehow female seducers and male rapists are the same thing. A seducer can be resisted, but a rapist takes violently what he wants. … [Read more...]
