bruce-gerencser-1971

by Bruce Gerenscer cross posted from his blog The Way ForwardNinth grade school picture, wearing the welfare glasses I got in 1971. It took me all of 4 weeks to earn enough money to get a pair wire rimmed glasses. I was so embarrassed to wear these glasses. Everyone knew our family was on welfare. It’s September of 1971 and I am fourteen and a ninth grade student at Central Junior High School in Findlay, Ohio. It’s time for gym class and today we are going to square dance. Except I won’t be square dancing because the church I attended, Trinity Baptist Church, considered dancing a sin. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Godly Response to a Sick Friend?

resting

by Kelly Reins from Ladies Against Feminism and her blog Ah The Life - A Snippet From a Letter to a Friend I am praying for you. I know it's difficult to be still and I know you know this, that there is great joy having no distractions between ourselves and our great Saviour (sic). There is precious insight in the much afforded quiet time and as much as pills, and herbs, and various other remedies bring relief, it is true that there is an equal amount of relief in walking through sanctification, delighting to do the smallest thing He asks us in faith, and becoming so acquainted with Him, it seems hard to have to part and bring the mind back to the cares of this world. … [Read more...]

How I Was Almost Rescued from Abuse

rescued

by Sarah Henderson cross posted from her blog Feminist in Spite of ThemA few months I wrote a post called Navigating the Justice System Part 1: Alone at 9 Years Old. This post is the story of what it was like for me to experience a Children's Aid investigation and a court case, from my perspective as a child. It skips pretty quickly over what the social workers were like and what they did, and I didn't talk very much about the involvement of other agencies and groups. … [Read more...]

So I’ve Been Spiritually Abused, What Next?: It Became To Me a Dark Thing

light

by Virginia Knowles cross posted from her blog Watch The Shepherd"It Became to Me a Dark Thing" by Virginia KnowlesIt became to me a dark thing: Words spoken over me, into me Claiming divine light, right, might to rule. "Go down, worm soul, go down - You are unworthy to assume the dignity Of one with victory crowned." As if I had swindled treasure! Embezzled grace and glory from celestial storehouses -- A dastardly slave, masquerading as a devoted heir. Contrary! The enemy himself ransacked, then accused and confused this child.Truth: Every spiritual blessing is lavished freely From the Father's endless bounty of grace - And these are not even His only such gifts to … [Read more...]

equality

by Steven L. Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church - NLT and the Message Promote "Equality in Marriage" I saw an article that someone posted about marriage that said this:They may quote Scripture and sound super-spiritual, but behind the façade of husbandly authority is deep insecurity and pride that can morph into spiritual abuse. Quoting Quiverfull: Fear or Pride – Your Choice?

by R. C. Sproul Jr. from  Highland Ministries - They Labor In Vain, Or a Funny Thing Happened While I Preached My Daughter's Wedding Just a few days ago I was privileged to be able to preach at a rather significant occasion, the wedding ceremony of my first-born. Darby was, like her mother, not just a beautiful and radiant bride, but a diligent, faithful laborer in bringing the event together. When I told her I would like to preach from Psalm 127 I could tell she was a smidge reluctant to give her approval. Perhaps she feared that I would chasten her and her new husband to remember that children are a blessing from the Lord, and I wanted grandbabies, and soon. Perhaps she feared that I … [Read more...]
