Quoting Quiverfull: Looking up to a Leader is Sexual Sin?

flirting-with-sexual-sin

by Jim Bob Howard of Highlands Ministries and reposted at Ladies Against Feminism - Flirting With Sexual SinLadies, don’t think you’re off the hook; I’d like to talk to you for a minute, too. Most readers here probably don’t spend much time falling for the men on the “daytime dramas” and the romance novels, who are no more real than Miss Picture Perfect. Rather, you spend time reading and listening to homeschool conference speakers, preachers, authors, magazine editors, etc. and wishing your husband would be more like ________ (fill in the name), not realizing that Mr. Blank is a sinner, just like your husband. Beware: you are a daughter of Eve; don’t let yourself be deceived. You are not … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet – Debi and Michael’s Love Story Part One

preparing

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideTo be clear, Debi and Michael's story is NOT a love story.  There is precious little love involved and a whole heap of red flags.I had just turned thirteen when I first saw him and knew, just simply knew, he was my man.  If he had glanced over and been able to read my mind he would have surely laughed.  (...)The whole community had been talking about the famous, young preacher who had been invited to speak at First Baptist Church's Teen Retreat.  (...) My young mind quickly assessed him.  He seemed bigger than life, a super, in charge type of man. I guessed he must have been at least 21 years old. (...) … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Winning Souls More Important Than Sexual Abuse?

by Debi Pearl from No Greater Joy - Debi Pearl Weighs in on the IBLP Situation What I am saying is that God raised up a man, a fallen sinful man, and used that man to pull together thousands of believers for a greater good. What I am saying is that someday soon we will all stand before the throne of God to give an answer. All of us. The man. The folks on the website that rejoiced in the fall. Me. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Stop Making Her Husband Look At Other Women?

by Dannah Gresh at Spirit Led Women in Charisma Magazine - How Women Can Make Church a Safe Place for Men After all, isn't church supposed to be a place where they can go to be free from temptation? What's a guy to do when the woman in his Sunday school class keeps showing up in a tight shirt and miniskirt, announcing it was a little cold in the parking lot? … [Read more...]

Duggars and Courtship

by Lana Hope cross posted from her blog Wide Open GroundA lot of people have pointed out how many Christian groups and churches are anti-gay. Even though these Christians love to say that they love the sinner and hate the sin, it does not remove the pain that a gay person has to face. If a gay teen comes out gay, the church will still pray for him and believe he needs to change. Sure the church claims to love the teen, but he’s still told he is sinning, and there is still that voice that something is wrong with him, and that he needs to change. … [Read more...]

Lourdes Torres, Christian Homeschooling and Consent

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love, Joy, FeminismI recently came upon an excellent example of what I was talking about when I wrote my “The Tale of Two Boxes” post several years ago. Homeschool leader Chris Jeub had this to say in a recent blog post titled “Patriarchy Has Got To Go“: In a nutshell, Phillips is being sued by his former nanny, someone he knew for over a decade and was very close to the Phillips family. Her lawyers have graphic details of Phillips forcing himself sexually, and Phillips’ lawyers are denying little of it, claiming “consensual” contact between adults. For those of us in the Christian homeschool community, this is just as bad as guilty. Phillips i … [Read more...]

God’s Not Dead: Thoughts on Christianity and Romance

by Mari cross posted from her blog Mari's MusingsThe other day, my Bible study group and I went to see God’s Not Dead.I enjoyed that the movie was one that made me think. If I have to sit and stare at a screen for longer than 5 minutes, it has to keep my mind engaged. This movie did that, and I enjoyed it.I’d have to watch the movie a few more times in order to be able to comment on the arguments for and against the existence of God. I might need to take notes or something — which is hard to do in a theater, so we won’t get into those arguments. … [Read more...]

Why Purity Culture Doesn’t Teach Consent

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Defeating The Dragons I’m a Star Trek fan, and yes– it’s related. I grew up watching Star Trek loyally, and I’m pretty sure Captain Kathryn Janeway is one of the few reasons why I managed to be somewhat normal. So, when Enterprise began airing, I watched every single episode, and Phlox, a Denobulan doctor, quickly became one of my favorites. “The Breach” is one of the few episodes dedicated to his character, and it explores an ethical dilemma: … [Read more...]
