Quoting Quiverfull: Stay At Home Daughters Are Slaves?

by Suzannah Rowntree at Ladies Against Feminism - Is Stay-At-Home Daughterhood Biblical? But there was one thing missing from my convictions on “stay-at-home” daughterhood. Folks—particularly Christian peers—would remind me that the Bible doesn’t specifically command, describe, or endorse the concept, and therefore one could not make it a rule for everyone. Up until recently, I found this reasoning pretty fair. None of the books I read on the subject of daughterhood and the family made more than a persuasive argument from Scripture—certainly nothing I found convincing. Most of the factors in my own decision had been personal, and while I loved the life so much, I couldn’t recommend it to oth … [Read more...]

Stand Up and Speak Your Truth

by AJ cross posted from her blog I Am PhoenixI have always had a hard time standing up for myself. I chalk it up to the way I grew up. I grew up in a cult where women and children weren't allowed to speak up for themselves, especially when we were abused. We weren't allowed to ask "Why?" even in a quiet voice. We were to take abuse quietly, submissively, like Godly females would. Otherwise, all hell would break loose. So, my sisters and I grew up with blank, obedient minds. We were trained to obey male authority without question, and we had a healthy fear of the chain of command above us. We were Godly, submissive sheep who obeyed at the blink of an eye. We grew up with no defenses … [Read more...]

Growing Up Duggar – Part 2 Foreword: Winning Souls Via Television

by Suzanne Titkemeyer cross posted from her blog True Love Doesn't RapePages XIII to XVI "Lord, we pray that our family can impact the world for You!" This portion of the Foreword was titled "Racing Against Time" and details how Michelle and Jim Bob prayed the above prayer years before they were anywhere near the public radar screen. They state that the prayer was also humbly asking God to keep all of them on the right track, but in reality there's not much humble about that type of thinking as it presumes that their way is the only right way, more of a 'use us, oh God, because we are the most righteous!' … [Read more...]

by Kristen Rosser cross posted from her blog Wordgazer's Words My analysis of the "Equal but Subordinate" teaching on women in Christianity seems to be turning into a series.  I didn't intend to do this, but I do believe the implications of this teaching in its various manifestations should be addressed fully.  This, then, is Part 3 (and I hope the conclusion!) … [Read more...]
