Quoting Quiverfull: Scream at Your Children?

Quotes1-300x250 (2)

From Salon quoting Glenn Beck's recent show - Glenn Beck: Scream at your children until they believe in God.  Glenn Beck branched out on Wednesday from his usual political conspiracy crazy-making to dispense some terrible parenting advice. You see, Beck believes that parents should use verbal abuse and physical intimidation to teach their children that their rights “come from God” by getting “in their face” and making them cry. … [Read more...]

A Love That Multiples Review: Introduction – Testy Already

lovethatmultiplies

by Calulu cross posted from her blog True Love Doesn't RapeIntroduction – "Our Biggest Test Begins"For the last year I've been gingerly attempting to read this book for the purposes of writing a review. Invariably what would happen is I would either snort in outrage or be triggered by some statement straight out of my old fundamentalist life and I'd end up abandoning the book in it's entirety for months. … [Read more...]

Covering Up the Body Before Puberty

modest

by Lana Hope cross posted from her blog Wide Open GroundI recent post by Aletha really stood out to me. This is where she talks about where the pain of modesty began. I started developing breasts when I was 8.  The first time I ever thought about them was in kid’s Sunday School.  I had been wearing a dress that I loved. It had flowers, and a petticoat, and lace.  It was also a year old, so it was a bit tight, and a bit short.  But it was my favourite.  It was, apparently, also a bit low cut.  I don’t know how much cleavage I was showing, but a Primary teacher took me aside and told me that my dress was immodest, and I should cover myself better next time. I didn’t want to cause problems … [Read more...]

Fascinating Womanhood Review: The Provider

From The Ugly Truth, the scene where Mike tells Georgia to let her husband “be a man,” and that he is emasculated because she earns more.

by Samantha Fields cross posted from her blog Defeating the Dragons Hopefully everyone had a fantastic Labor Day weekend. Today’s chapter fits quite well into that theme, actually, since it is entirely devoted to how men have an “inborn” need to provide for their families– although the way he is “intended” to provide extends beyond physical needs and goes into achieving both status and acclaim. … [Read more...]

CTBHHM: Women Can Be Effective Leaders – So What?

created

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love Joy FeminismCreated To Be His Help Meet, pp. 119-121Some of you have noted that Debi’s getting a bit repetitive. In future posts I’m going to try to move more quickly through parts where Debi’s simply restating what she’s already said. In this section, though, Debi says something I don’t think she’s said before. God expresses a clear and sure mandate when he tells us: “But I suffer not [do not allow] a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, [that includes your pastor] but to be in silence.” (I Timothy 2:12).I call your attention back to the argument in a letter we read in chapter 5. [I reviewed that section in this post … [Read more...]
