by R.L. Stollar cross posted from Homeschoolers Anonymous “You have planted wickedness and harvested a thriving crop of sins. You have eaten the fruit of lies — trusting in your own way, believing that your great armies could make your nation safe.” ~ Hosea 10:13 ***** On Sunday, HSLDA’s Michael Farris made his first public statement on the recent controversies surrounding Doug Phillips’s clergy sexual abuse and Bill Gothard’s sexual child abuse. … [Read more...]

The Homeschool Lobby Now Has Public School Children In Its Crosshairs Too

child

by R.L. Stollar cross posted from his blog Homeschoolers Anonymous (Editorial note: Thanks for all the hard work you and others do to ensure homeschooled children have as many protections as public schooled children! R.L. Stollar and HARO deserve a round of applause for their recent work in Virginia. Attaboy and keep it up!) By R.L. Stollar, HA Community Coordinator I am getting tired of all the parentsplaining. … [Read more...]

On Child Marriage: Kevin Swanson and Dave Bruehner Defend Phil Robertson

unholytrinity

by R.L. Stollar cross posted from his blog Homeschoolers Anonymous Kevin Swanson and Dave Bruehner have now publicly joined with Phil Robertson (in particular) and Matthew Chapman (in general) in defense of child marriage. In their latest Generations with Vision broadcast, “Sexting and Christian Modesty,” Swanson and Bruehner propose that liberals want pre-teen and early teen girls “sexing” it up all over the place, whereas biblically-based Christians should want them… “sexing” it up at that age only in marriage? … [Read more...]

Dude, Seriously? – Answering Kevin Swanson

pride

by Calulu cross posted from her blog True Love Doesn't Rape Recently Kevin Swanson, radio babbler and righteous rabblerouser against all things not homeschooling fundamentalist Biblical patriarchy has been making more of an ass out of himself than usual. It's not merely due to the fact that he has a new book to flog about and promote by calling everyone that doesn't agree with him an 'Apostate', a title that is also a big part of the title of his new book. Oh no, Kevin seems to be off the internet deep end this week. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Who Decides the Definition of “Apostate”?

It might not be a literal sin, but it's a crime against fashion

by Kevin Swanson of Generations With Vision - Homeschool Apostates and Kathryn Joyce's Sins And, yes, yes. We can see that faithlessness tends to be generational and builds on itself from generation to generation. I make no bones about it.  We’re in the minority.  The masses are moving towards apostasy. The millennial generation is far more likely to be pro-homosexual, pro-evolution, and pro-socialist than the previous generation. (Reference: http://www.pewforum.org/2010/02/17/religion-among-the-millennials/). … [Read more...]

Teenage Brides and Titus 2 Women of the Homeschool Apostates

laurenchapman

by Heather Doney cross posted from her blog Becoming Worldly Today the big American Prospect “Homeschool Apostates” story came out. A number of us have been working with Kathryn Joyce for some time on the issue and so while I only had a short segment in it, an interview on social awkwardness as a formative experience, the piece is the most comprehensive one to exist on this advocacy work I am helping spearhead as of yet, and it really highlights the issues in a way that I find to be deeply meaningful and sincerely hope will help raise awareness and bring about improvement. … [Read more...]

Love Misapplied: A Response to Chris Jeub

lovesand

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love Joy Feminism and Homeschoolers Anonymous I grew up hearing about Chris Jeub. He was a big name in NCFCA homeschool debate circles, and while I never met him I did use the evidence briefs he put out. The Jeubs had 16 kids and were deep into the patriarchal and controlling ideas at the heart of the most conservative strains of the Christian homeschooling movement. In fact, they kicked their daughter Alicia out of the family and shunned her completely when she became “rebellious.” However, Chris says that he and his family have since left that whole legalistic mess. … [Read more...]

Feeling Empathy for Christian Patriarchy Parents & Leaders

forgiveness

by Heather Doney cross posted from her blog Becoming Worldly I did a couple things I never expected to do yesterday. I had a thought-provoking conversation that left me thinking about how it is easy to decide that someone is an enemy, a jerk, a selfish person. It is easy to determine that people are unworthy, undeserving, maybe even unclean. It is easy for them to decide that about you too. … [Read more...]
