Jack Schaap in His Own Words

SchaapDivInt4

Found a photocopy from one of Jack Schaap's books at a Baptist Church website. It's one thing to hear people talking about his strangely sexualized beliefs and quite another to view them for yourself. From Faithful Word Baptist Church website. Comments open … [Read more...]

Millipede: Part 19

straw

by Millipede My story continued; The Final Straw. Spring came and with it came another problem. After having been married so long, I figured that I had seen all of the "issues" that my husband had. The disregard for his health, the laziness, the ability to let his faults put us in dire circumstances. I thought I knew them all. Evidently not. Simply put, my husband had developed an alcohol problem. To backtrack, we had never been teetotalers. Even after having gotten involved in the Patriarchy movement, we never abstained from alcohol completely. While both churches had followed a lot of Fundamentalists doctrines, neither condemned alcohol use. In fact many of our church friends … [Read more...]

Jack Schaap: Villain or Victim?

jackschaap

Update on the ongoing scandal without the Independent Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana. Seems that with every passing day there has been increasingly odd new stories coming out about the real reasons Jack Schaap has been asked to step down from his pastorate position at the First Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana. Some of his supporters are trying to spin it as if he were the victim of a wicked, wily, horny teenage girl, that old 'blame the victim' mentality that hinges on modesty issues most of the time. But there were hints that Jack Schaap was not quite right before this incident came to light. Like the strange things that were said during his last sermon at First Baptist Church. … [Read more...]

Millipede: Part 18

drift

by Millipede I was willing to let bygones be bygones on the church issue. After all, my husband wasn't going to force the issue on me. There were other problems appearing on the horizon After such a great start following the bariatric surgery old habits were coming back . At first my husband noticed it and would make comments about how he needed to get out and do stuff. He quite going to the support group. It was during the winter and they had quit meeting for a couple of months due to the weather. When the weather got better, he claimed that the group hadn't started meeting and after that he never looked for another one. Worse, his meal portion sizes grew. It got to where the servings … [Read more...]

An Open Letter to Ellie Ponder Woman

unmasking

by Calulu Dear Ellie Ponder Woman– Listen Please! Several days ago I was directed to your blog by a friend and before I knew it I was drawn in. I read every entry, particularly those involving the struggles in your marriage with incidents of domestic violence. You stated that you wanted to glorify God through your postings, testify to His mercy, love, restoration and miracles. Which is fine because every blog author has their own central theme. I know from reading your comments and commenting policy page that any concerns I might post for you there will only be deleted and considered hateful attacks by the enemy. I'm not writing about this out of hate, but concern for another … [Read more...]

Chick Fil A’s “Appreciation Day” or Spite is Not a Christian Virtue

chickla

by Sierra This morning, one of the first things I saw on my facebook feed was an explosion of pictures of Chick-fil-A buildings around the country mobbed by evangelical Christians. The lines wrapped around the buildings, out into the parking lot. Fat, shiny SUVs sat cooling off and reminding everybody that their owners were people of means. And I felt sick. This was no display of Christian love. This was no humble stand for the truth. This was an act of spite. Bloated, aggressive spite, rooted in pride and void of compassion. The evangelicals who showed up waving American flags and shouting sexual slurs were not emulating Jesus. They were piling sacks of coins on the tables of the … [Read more...]

Updated Allegations Involving Jack Schaap

Many of us that have been following the Jack Schaap firing from First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana.  This morning brought the news of exactly why there was a law enforcement investigation into the circumstances that led to his dismissal. Not only had he cheated on his wife, breaking his marriage covenant with her but it seems that his choice of partner was a 16 year old girl, a mere child to his 54 years of age. Preying on the young, sick and disgusting. More at MSNBC. Comments open below NLQ Recommended Reading ... Waffle Fries Last Stand

gloating

by Calulu (Or famewhoring For Jesus: What Does Fried Chicken, Jimmy Swaggart, The Duggars and Fox News Have in Common?) Alright, so I know Chick Fil A and Fox News aren't exactly Quiverfull supporters directly but I could not allow their media manipulation for "Good Christian Values" to pass without commentary. It was with great amusement I watched the Chick Fil A August 1st “Good Christians Show Your Gay Hatred by Eating at Chick Fil A” Appreciation Day led by Fox New's Mike Huckabee yesterday. While I was out running errands I noticed that there was a line around the building and drive thru was backed up past IHOP. I saw various people I knew from the scattered church … [Read more...]

Millipede Part 17

steeple

by Millipede This time around it was different on the surface at least. My husband was trying a kinder and gentler approach to his faith. Rather than trying to make his wife follow behind him in the old Patriarchy Parade, my husband was content to go to church by himself. He did encourage me to go and on the infrequent occasions that I did, he would make a point of being considerate of me. Even so, I did not make plans to attend on a regular basis, even with my husband willing to leave when I was ready, it was usually about three in the afternoon when we left church. Given that it took over an hour to get there, the day was mostly over when we got home. Also, this pastor believed that … [Read more...]

Who Was That Masked Man Part 13 – Finis

by Calulu Let's recap: Tom Smith has just spent something like nearly fifteen years meddling in my life under the guise of 'Christian Brotherhood' and we'd just left the church we attended with him for a mainstream denomination in our town. He'd led the villagers in a figurative angry mob with torches against us to try and make my husband and myself return to our old church. There was no turning back at this point.... The angry emails proclaiming fire, brimstone and angry celestial judgment started to ease off till after a few years there were only a few every six months or so. The rumors getting back to me about myself were becoming very less frequent even if some of those I had … [Read more...]
