Slutty Girls…(Fill in Blank)

sluttish

by Calulu cross posted from her blog Seeking The Light One of the big phrases I heard many times in my very Catholic family was "Slutty Girls...." with some description of whatever undesirable behavior that these imaginary threatening exemplar ladies were modeling. I heard that hoary old chestnut so many times that if I were to suddenly pick up a Marlboro, flick my Bic and actually inhale I'd hear my mother, my grandmother, my great grandmother and probably countless generations back exclaim in my mind - "Slutty girls smoke" - spoken in parts outraged and cautionary. … [Read more...]

TTUAC: Introduction—Laying out the Goal

TTUAC

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love Joy Feminism To Train Up A Child, introduction   You probably know that I’ve been writing a page-by-page review of Debi Pearl’s manual on how to be a good wife, Created To Be His Help Meet. I’ve decided to begin doing the same for Michael and Debi Pearl’s child training manual, To Train Up A Child. Because the text is available online, I’m going to quote the entire thing over the course of this series rather than just excerpts. The end product will be the text of To Train Up A Child, with my commentary. I will be posting a new excerpt each Monday. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Well-Behaved Women?

Quotes1-300x250 (2)

From The Prairie Muffin Manifesto The women who will have the greatest impact on the world, those who will have the greatest influence on history, are those "well-behaved" women who faithfully serve God in their daily lives, seeking His approval rather than the world's admiration. Prairie Muffins know that while engaging in the kingdom-building work in their homes of loving, training and disciplining their children, the world may not express its approval, but it will be turned upside down. … [Read more...]

When I Rejected Dominionism

dominionism-head-in-the-sand

by Lana Hope cross posted from her blog Wide Open Ground and Homeschoolers Anonymous By now most people have probably heard of the dominionism in homeschooling and conservative evangelical circles — the idea that homeschoolers will change the world by their involvement in absolutely everything, from science to the high arts to politics. Oddly even after I rejected patriarchalism (and courtship and purity), I still saw myself as a huge warrior and heroine. I’ll tell you what changed that for me. But first thought I’ll give you a couple quotes of this in homeschool circles. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Our Clothing Choices Hurt Other Women?

Quotes1-300x250 (2)

by Stacy McDonald of Ladies Against Feminism and Your Sacred Calling - The Idol of Modesty Our reasons for dressing modestly should have nothing to do with gaining a sense of satisfaction or worth from another person. It should have nothing to do with attention seeking or yearning for approval from others. If we do that we have the same sin dressed up in modest clothes. The way we dress should have everything to do with dressing for the glory of God (and that goes for men as well as women). … [Read more...]

CTBHHM: You Only Think You’re Spiritual!

created

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love Joy Feminism Created To Be His Help Meet, pp. 109-10 Women, in general, give the appearance of being more spiritual than men. They like to dabble in soulish thoughts. There are many ways of expressing spirituality, but most of them have nothing to do with the Spirit of Jesus Christ. We ladies are more inclined to trust in our feelings and intuition than are men, which makes us more subject to deception, just like sister Eve. Feelings and intuition are ever-changing. The Word of God is objective and dogmatic—unchanging. It is to religion what hard facts are to science. … [Read more...]

While the trial of Carri and Larry Williams is still ongoing here is the official statement Michael Pearl gave several years ago disavowing any link between his book "To Train Up a Child" and the death of Hana Williams. What do you think? by Michael Pearl of No Greater Joy ministries and author of "To Train Up a Child" … [Read more...]

Eighty Four B (84B)

No

by Mari cross posted from her blog Mari's Muses On I-29 in South Dakota, exit 84B exits onto I-90 West toward Rapid City. I’ve learned this well. I go to Sioux Falls (what I like to call “going to town”) for work a lot, and when you drive the same route several times, you sort of start to pick up on these things. One time I went to Sioux Falls 3 times in a 7-day period. It was awesome! In this blog, 84B is sort of an exit from this (84) to other, somewhat related topics. This morning in church, my pastor was talking about Philippians 1:21- For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. … [Read more...]
