Duggar Family Singing on the Campaign Trail of Todd Akin

Matthew 12:35 "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks"  by Calulu  Today some of the more popular media outlets like Buzzfeed, finally picked up on the story that the holier than holy Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar family had started stumping for Todd Akin. They've been with Akin and others trying to drum up votes since early this week. I wonder how long it will take mainstream media to realize that the Duggars are part of the campaign rally for a man almost universally reviled for his repugnant remarks on rape? It's a question that bears asking considering by doing so the Duggars are stamping their approval on the very thing that makes everyone else hate Todd Akin. I … [Read more...]

The Duggars Campaigning For Todd Akin

Remember Todd Akin? The guy that said women have magical mystery vaginas that will not allow the sperm of a rapist to fertilize an egg? Him of the flawed biology beliefs? The Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar Family of TLC's "19 Kids & Counting" will be going to a number of fundraisers for Akin in the next few days. The Duggars are back on the campaign trail. This time, they are showing their support for representative Todd Akin. Join them in Missouri on October 16th and 17th (details below). The Duggars plan on bringing their entire family, minus John and Jill, to the events to perform music. Josh and Anna also plan on attending with Mackynzie and Michael. Greed, Giving & The Duggar Family

giving

by Calulu 2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one should give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or from compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver This week as Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar seem to have been everywhere in the media I've kept returning to their family website, seeking to figure out the 'why' about the changes the family has made since 2004.  I've read through many pages, been both disgusted and amused by some of what I've seen. Many of Michelle's blog posts seem to be in defense of some aspect of their life style, home schooling, childrearing, handling money, handling the kids handling the money, grieving over miscarriage. Other stuff, but mostly stuff involving … [Read more...]

In The Spotlights Glare – Are The Duggar Family & The Bates Family Media Whores?

beforeafter

by Calulu Another television season is upon us again and that means one thing. More of the Duggars "19 Kids and Counting". The show starts anew on Tuesday, August 28th on TLC Channel at 9 pm est. This year their friends theBates have a show too - "The United Bates of America" There are preview videos for both series up now on the TLC website. Looking through both videos I have noticed one thing, both families have changed a great deal in the short time they've been in the spot light. Which is ironic considering how Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have stated from the beginning that they are to be a light shining out to the world, a shining city on the hill. That's not quite what I'm … [Read more...]

NLQ FAQ Revisited: What is Quiverfull?

By Vyckie Q: What is “Quiverfull?” “Quiverfull” is a convenient, though I believe, somewhat unfortunate term which we’re using at No Longer Quivering to describe a family lifestyle which is growing in popularity among evangelical Christians ~ particularly those who home educate their children. Quiverfull ~ is the idea that truly godly families will “trust the Lord” with their family planning. Children are viewed as unmitigated blessings (“As arrows in the hand of the mighty man, so are the children of ones youth, happy is the man who hath his quiver full of them”) and as such, the couple is willing to have as many children as the Lord chooses to bless … [Read more...]

NLQ FAQ Revisited: Are Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar “Quiverfull”?

by Hopewell Q: Are the Duggars Quiverfull? By their own admission, Jim-Bob and Michelle were so “grieved” after reading the information pamphlet in a birth control pill package that they turned their fertility over to God. (“About Us” para.1 See also, Dallas News).  That decision has been the reason for their incredible family size of 19 children. Recently the media has offered several profiles of just who are “Quiverfull” families. Increasingly, the presence of such large, ideologically driven families is being documented through the medium of the age: reality TV shows and lifestyle cable channel specials, all of which campily depict Quiverfull life as like … [Read more...]

Raised Quiverfull: Living the Life Part 2

by Libby Anne Raised Quiverfull Introduction — Questioning Summary Question 3: How often did you, your siblings, and your parents read the Bible? Were you guided by your parents or pastors in how to interpret the Bible, especially certain passages, or were you generally free to form your own ideas about what the Bible said? Joe: Suffice it to say that I have read through the whole Bible about forty times.  We were required to read it daily after school. During the summer months, while on summer vacation, we had to read it every morning before breakfast.  Our interpretation of it came directly from Billy Boy G’s [Bill Gothard] reading of the text.  I got to the … [Read more...]

Submission and Prison Cells: Part 1

cells

by Melissa Permission To Live Almost five years ago, I was a devout conservative Christian. I had been married over two years, had a toddler Ms Action running around and a baby Ms Drama due in a few months. I loved my spouse beyond what I had ever thought love was when we first got married, and I still dutifully tried to keep the house immaculate and dinner on the table by the time he walked in the door. I read lots of books on marriage and childrearing, and I gave some of them away too. I remember in particular giving away copies of “To Train up a Child” and “Be Fruitful and Multiply”. I did my best to live up to the ideas I found in the Bible, the Christian books and magazines I … [Read more...]
