Quoting Quiverfull: Part 5 Michael Pearl Answers Critics of “To Train Up A Child”

quotingquiverfull

by Michael Pearl from No Greater Joy - It's The Book's FaultEditor's note: And so it ends, with junk science saying that we're all making it worse by eating fat and sugar AND for guilt bonus points, watching television. None of those three things causes the chronic fatigue Michael references. You know what does? Being driven like a mule with a cruel master to do everything, do it fast and do it immediately with no down time, sort of like that honeymoon from hell he put his wife through. … [Read more...]

Created To Need A Help Meet (Why Men Need Wives)

Createdtoneed

by Althea cross posted from her blog Yllom Mormon(The purple text is directly quoted from the book - the words of Michael Pearl)pages 21-26In this section, Michael lays out his reasons as to why every man should be married.  Hint: It's because they need a help meet. (shocking, I know)I Needed Her    The reason I chose Deb to be my bride was because I had developed a need for her.  Not sexual at first.  I had possessed a sexual need for thirteen years and knew many girls I felt could satisfy that hunger. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Are “Sexual Immorality” and “Lust” the Same Thing?

quotingquiverfull

by Kristen Clark from Girl Defined - Lust: A Christian Girl's ProblemEditor's note: This entire piece makes me sad because it seems that Evangelical Quiverfull Christianity has made the idea of any thought even slightly romantic or erotic into something sinful and dirty. What an insanely impossible standard that goes against everything in our own biology. Kristen quotes 1 Thessalonians 4:3 to justify never having any thoughts related to the opposite sex "that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor.” yet doesn't seem to realize that 'Sexual immorality' and 'Lust' may not even be the same thing in this passage. What d … [Read more...]

Created To Need A Help Meet – Introductions, Acknowledgements and Michael, the Manly Man

For this series I'm using a photograph of a crab taken on the beaches of Costa Rica. Ever since reading the terrible crabbing honeymoon story of Debi and Michael Pearl crabs always remind me of him.

by Aletha cross posted from her blog Yllom MormonEditor's note: Thank you Aletha for sharing this with us! Welcome~Ok. I'm just going to jump right in. "Created to Need a Help Meet" by Michael Pearl. The companion marriage-help book to his wife, Debi's, "Created to Be a Help Meet".  Passages from the book will be in purple, just to make things simpler. … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: Part 5 – The Wedding

WhenCowsKidsCollide

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows And Kids CollideDebi spends quite a bit of time asking Yetta questions about her wedding.  Since I find going over the details of a wedding of a person I don't know dull, I'm just gonna pick out pertinent questions. Q: Your flowers were great, too.  I liked the fall colors.  They must have cost a lot?A: I have a story about the flowers.  When Kent and I first began to see each other we both started saving money for our wedding and our honeymoon.  Together we decided how much we would spend for each part of the wedding. … [Read more...]

Answering ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet ‘ – What Type of Girl am I?

Answering

Another installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical, rational and the best possible solution, in other words 18 … [Read more...]

“Zimzum of Love” review: 49 – 95, “Dynamic” and “Exclusive”

Image NLQ Original

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Defeating The Dragons One of the reasons why I was initially hesitant to write a review of a book I knew I’d essentially agree with was that I’d move through the book and think ho-hum, or well, duh, or this is just common sense why did we need a book about this. And then I’ll remember– oh, wait, there’s a zillion books out there that actively contradict what I think is “common sense,” so yes, we do need a book like this one. Desperately. … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: Part 2 The Wedding

Image by Mel "A small wedding is hard to pull off with 23 aunts/uncles + 50 first cousins on the bride's side"

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideDebi gives us a rundown on how she felt about Yetta's wedding. Yetta is interviewed later in the chapter, but Debi gets her two-cents in first - with plenty of incorrect verb tenses, misspelled words, and floating commas. Here is what one wise young woman did for her non-stress (sic), joyful wedding. When I attend (sic) Yetta's wedding, I was struck with its personal style and sheer simplicity. It was clear that everyone, including the bride and groom, was relaxed and having a good time. The people attending will look back to this wedding and think, "Wasn't it wonderful? They looked so happy." … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Spanking to Bring ‘Peace’ and ‘Stability’ Into the Home?

quotingquiverfull

by Michael Pearl of No Greater Joy - Spank and Save a Child Editor's note: This entire piece is part disgusting and part hysterical. Mr. Pearl is ranting against all the naysayers who think spanking is abusive towards children, even as there are studies which prove it is. He's also upset that his words are being taken out of context for quotes. Bonus points in the piece for his reference to uneducated 'hillbilly' women.  … [Read more...]
