Lana Hope’s Story

trolldolls

Please join me in welcoming Lana Hope to our Spiritual Abuse Survivor Blogs Network! by Lana Hope. She blogs at Wide Open Ground   I grew up in the Deep South. In our rural homeschool community homeschoolers were a scarcity, with miles between families, so homeschool came somewhat isolating, by default. Our first year of homeschooling was the best of my homeschool memories – at least in my foggy memory. Our math textbook included counting ducks. We went on loads of fieldtrips and had hands on learning. There was no legalism or spiritual abuse in our house. I even had a troll party for my 7th birthday. Trolls. … [Read more...]

Religion Makes Abuse Easy

Field

by AJ cross posted from her blog I Am Phoenix (Editor's Note - Let's all welcome AJ as she is the newest member of NLQ's Spiritual Abuse Survivor Blogs Network! Welcome AJ!) Religion makes abuse easy. There it is, pure and simple. A truth I've born witness to. Walk with me down this road. Travel back in time with me, and open the window to the kitchen in my parents' house. Poke your head in and listen with me. Look at the old farmstead kitchen table, and the meek kids with their heads lowered in submission, while the patriarch booms on at the head of the table, lecturing and teaching after dinner before everyone's dismissed from the table. … [Read more...]

Bill Gothard has negatively affected my life: Part 2

The truth is that patriarchal fundamentalist thought had already wreaked havoc on my life before I even met my husband, … [Read more...]

Biblebasedcult

by Heather Doney This may be the most important and most scary post on homeschooling that I have ever written. It feels like something out of a Margaret Atwood novel and I am numb as I write this, so please bear with me. The title of this post is not rhetorical. It is a question I am actively pondering at the moment. … [Read more...]

A Clever Boy

Jeffrey

by Jeffrey Witthauer An atheist page asked those of us who were formerly religious to share our stories. This is what I wrote up. I was raised in a cult. I do not use that word lightly. The sign outside the church said "Baptist", but we were not part of any Baptist convocation. We were a fanatically fundamentalist sect, and I could count on one hand the number … [Read more...]
