Kevin Swanson, Child Abuse, And Dead Little Bunnies

Reposted from Homeschoolers Anonymous HA note: Kathi is a Bible-belt midwest transplant to the beautiful Pacific northwest. After homeschooling her kids for 10 years (she decided that high school math and science were not her strongest subjects), both kids are in public school. She is a former church goer and finds herself in that unstudied demographic of middle-aged Nones. She has a B.A. in Urban Ministry and a M.S.W. Her goal is to work with children who have been abused or are in foster care. She loves to knit, cook and read (not in any particular order). The following was originally published on Kathi’s blog Moving Beyond Absolutes on April 5, 2014 and is reprinted with permission.  I h … [Read more...]

“19 Kids & Counting” Duggar Fans Got Trolled

michellejimbob

by Suzanne Titkemeyer cross posted from her blog True Love Doesn't RapeWe've written and posted too many times here at NLQ about TLC's Duggar family, the stars of "19 Kids & Counting".  You can almost tell how well or not so well the show is doing in the ratings and when the premiere of the new season is by the flood of Duggar family related news/gossip that floods the internet. 'The Duggars stop for bagels!' or 'The Duggar Family says all drag queens need Jesus!' Ridiculous minutia everywhere to keep people talking about the show and the Duggars so all that sweet, sweet cash will keep coming on in like manna to TLC and the Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar compound.Last season there … [Read more...]

News: Ben Seewald and Jessa Duggar’s Wedding Registry

You know it's going to be a slow day in the news when a bunch of news sites like Huffington Post have nothing better to cover than the wedding registry list for reality television stars. According to E! Online they are asking for things like a $139.39 hair straightener and a massaging foot bath. From E! - Our Twelve Favorite Items … [Read more...]

“Real Marriage” by Mark Driscoll: review xi-xiv Preface and Introduction

preaching

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Defeating The Dragons Ok, so I read four pages of Real Marriage this morning. There’s eleven chapters, so with that plus covering the preface and introduction today, I’m going to try to wrap this up in three months and avoid as much of the “multiple weeks dedicated to one chapter” thing that happened a few times with Captivating. I don’t think you or I could handle it. Like Fascinating Womanhood and Captivating, Real Marriage will inevitably have statements that I agree with, mostly because they’re common sense. And, the first time I read these pages this morning, I thought I could agree with a good portion of what he said in the preface, which i … [Read more...]

Pastor Mark Driscoll Called Women “Penis Homes”

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love, Joy, Feminism(Editor's note: Last week here at NLQ we posted a snippet of quote by Mark Driscoll along with a link to lots of Driscoll's thoughts on marriage and sexuality from a message board he used to post at. This is just the sort of stuff that reveals the mind set of the real Mark Driscoll much more than any officially published book ever could. Nice catch Libby Anne, and as always, a very well written piece!)Things have been getting worse and worse for Mark Driscoll in recent weeks. But what I want to point out for a moment is one of Driscoll’s posts from 2001, when he was posting to a church message board under the name William W … [Read more...]

Mark and Grace Driscoll’s “Real Marriage” Review Series

real marriage

by Samantha Fields cross posted from her blog Defeating The Dragons A little while ago, I put together a list of the most popular Christian marriage advice books. I made this list based on a variety of factors; I looked at a bunch of “best of” lists and found the ones that showed up on more than one, or had the most reviews– and the most positive reviews– on Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Christianbook . . . I also tried to limit the list to books that were extremely popular and well-known, that appeared frequently in church curriculum or pre-marital counseling materials. After I had the list, I put up a poll on the next book I should review as part of an extended review series. … [Read more...]

Apostate: Jean-Jacques Rousseau – Chapter 6

rousseau

by Lana Hope cross posted from her blog Wide Open Ground In today’s review, I will discuss chapter 6 of Kevin Swanson’s book Apostate. In this chapter, Kevin Swanson intensely unravels his special dislike for Rousseau, more so than any of the other “apostates” discussed in the previous chapters.  In part, I understand. Rousseau was not a man of integrity and honor. As Swanson discusses, Rousseau abandoned his children at an orphanage, in order to devote himself to his work, and he cheated on his lifelong partner. Certainly I share concerns that Rousseau never raised his children, and even greater concerns for the part of Rousseau’s life that Swanson does not narrate (for example: Rousseau t … [Read more...]

Stollar cross posted from Homeschoolers Anonymous Every year the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) puts on the National Leader’s Conference, where the biggest names and leaders in homeschooling come together to network and hear educational and inspirational talks from both HSLDA’s staff as well as outside speakers invited by HSLDA. I Lost a Part of Me That I Will Never Get Back

by Lana Hope cross posted from her blog Wide Open Ground “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer HT, Ryan Stollar ____ I am not a huge fan of the Dr. Quinn the Medicine Woman series (in fact, I have a whole post written about the literary problems with this series sitting in my drafts, that I have not published). But there is one episode that I have watched over and over and over again. I have watched it so many times I have the lines memorized, yet I still watch it again and again. … [Read more...]
