News: Jack Schaap Denied Sentence Reduction

schaap

Turns out that the federal judge handling First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana's former pastor Jack Schaap's appeal on his conviction is not swayed by Schaap's arguments that his lawyers lied to him and that his victim's sexual history should be considered. Last week Judge Rudy Lozano threw out Schaap's appeal, citing that Schaap was recorded at the original case pleading being asked if he understood that by taking a plea deal and pleading guilty he was giving up any right to file an appeal. He also stated at that time that he understood he could be sentenced to as much as life imprisonment for his crime.Judge Lozano's remarks: “This court repeatedly asked Schaap if he understood t … [Read more...]

by Cindy Kunsman cross posted from The Spiritual Sounding BoardAfter reading the account of the Lourdes Torres-Manteufel abuse by Vision Forum founder, Doug Phillips, Cindy Kunsman reflects on her own sex abuse story.Note from Julie Anne:  I remember talking to Cindy Kunsman around the time the Lourdes Torres-Manteufel lawsuit was made public. Lourdes’ story greatly affected her in a personal way, reminding her of her own sexually abusive childhood. This sometimes happens when someone else’s story reminds us of our own painful experience. Statistics tell us that there are a lot of people who have been sexually abused. If you have been sexually abused, this may be a sensitive subject f … [Read more...]

by Suzanne Titkemeyer cross posted from her blog True Love Doesn't RapeI was saddened but not surprised to hear this morning that actress-singer Vanessa L. Williams (my favorite on the show "Ugly Betty") had been sexually molested at ten years old. She came out and told the story on "Oprah's Master Class"Vanessa explained how her experience had played out in the rest of her life, her early sexual experiences, bad choices in relationships, the guilt and shame, the bout of promiscuity. … [Read more...]

It’s 9am Sunday Morning, Do You Know the People You Sent Your Children To?

sexualabuseministry

by Suzanne Titkemeyer cross posted from her blog Seeking The LightIn the last few months I've noticed a proliferation of church buses cruising through my neighborhood here in my small town in the Virginia Piedmont every Sunday morn. Some of the drivers wave as I'm getting in my car dressed for service at my own place of worship. I smile and wave back and wonder what the policy is of that particular church to protect the children in their temporary care. … [Read more...]

The Old Schoolhouse Says Child Molestation Allegations “Are False”, Insinuates Possibility of Legal Retaliation

falseaccusations

by R. L. Stollar cross posted from Homeschoolers AnonymousLast week we reported that Paul and Gena Suarez, owners of the “global homeschooling company” The Old Schoolhouse, have been accused by a former key employee of (1) allegedly protecting several known child predators and (2) shaming and silencing members of their community who tried to stand up and do the right thing. Yesterday Hännah Ettinger covered the story on Patheos as well: “Publishers of Christian Homeschooling Magazine Exposed for Protecting Child Abuser.” It has also been claimed that David Gibbs III — who is involved in the mediation process between the abuser’s family and the victim’s family — allegedly told the victim’s … [Read more...]

Speaking Up About Sexual Abuse

jesus

by AJ cross posted from her blog I Am PhoenixI am at the point in my life now where for the last several months, I have felt safe enough to process the past.  Although I was sexually abused when I was a child, I didn’t tell my family then or as an adult. I kept quiet because I was threatened with hell and the devil when I was a kid. I was so traumatized, I pushed most of the memories away and didn’t think about them for over 30 years. Now that I haven't been a Christian for over a year, I've lost my fear of hell and devil, and I finally feel unthreatened and able to process the abuse. … [Read more...]

News: Jack Schaap Trying To Squirm Out Of Sentence

While dress codes are not the issue in the Jack Schaap conviction the same attitudes of sexualizing a teenager and trying to blame her for his own attitudes towards her are the same.

Now Jack Schaap is claiming that he was improperly represented by his legal staff at his trial for violation of the Mann Act and sex with an underaged girl. Schaap is claiming his attorneys promised him a sentence of no more than ten years, yet the judge gave him twelve years. It was fully within the rights of the judge to decide the length of the sentence regardless of what prosecutors  or defense team members asked for as a sentence. … [Read more...]

Book Review – 13:24: A Story of Faith and Obsession by M. Dolon Hickmon

1324

by Suzanne Titkemeyer  cross posted from her blog Seeking The LightBook Review: 13:24: A Story of Faith and Obsession by M. Dolon HickmonA good lesson for me is to never judge a book by its cover, literally. Before I start my review I have to confess that when '13:24' first came to my attention I had no interest in reading it, not even with Vyckie Garrison of NLQ's recommendation. I took one look at the cover, saw the shaggy-haired heavy metal lead singer and the animal skull above and decided this book wasn't something I'd be interested in. I knew there would be descriptions of physical and spiritual abuse and figured I was not going there again because this book would trigger me … [Read more...]
