Bob Jones University Ignored Sexual Abuse for Decades

puke

by Bruce Gerencser cross posted from his blog The Life and Times of Bruce Gerencser(Editor's note: Welcome back to the world of blogging. Bruce, you've been sorely missed.)Under attack over their handling of sexual abuse and rape complaints, fundamentalist Christian university, Bob Jones University, hired GRACE (Godly Response for Abuse in the Christian Environment), to do an investigation.  Towards the end of the investigation, Bob Jones ended its contractual arrangement with GRACE and refused to allow any report to be issued. The outrage over this was such that Bob Jones was forced to re-contract with GRACE and the report has now been released. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Women Report More False Than True Rape Incidents?

Some of the same infuriating rape culture thinking that Matt Walsh promotes..

by Matt Walsh at The Matt Walsh Blog - False Rape Accusations Are Just as Evil as Rape ItselfWhile Matt is not addressing the recently revealed allegations that Bob Jones University officials covered up sexual abuse cases on campus, he is sounding off on the recent story in Rolling Stone magazine about rape on the campus of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. After Rolling Stone published their story of ignored rape taking place in a fraternity it came out that the accuser was lying. He seizes upon this one story to make his assertions that rape is mostly made up instead of examining the evidence that Bob Jones and other Christian schools have lied and covered up … [Read more...]

Bob Jones University: Hope Before GRACE Storm

jenga

by Cindy Kunsman cross posted from her blog Under Much GraceMy life has become tremendously busy, I've not done a tenth of that which I planned over the past two months, but I am grateful that a friend sent word to me about the status of the Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment's report concerning Bob Jones University.  Its release is planned for the morrow and concerns whether the school appropriately fulfilled their legal obligations to report felonies of physical and sexual abuse that were reported to them by their students.  It also addressed the manner in which the staff, the administration, the school's system of managing student behavior, and the counselors addr … [Read more...]

“Real Marriage” Review: 65 – 85, ‘The Respectful Wife’

realmarriage4

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Defeating the Dragons With a chapter title like that, you just know how much I loved it. I probably should have expected this chapter to be more infuriating than the one devoted to men, but I didn’t. My marginalia has a lot more “WTF” and “BS” (which stands for both bullshitand benevolent sexism; nice how that one worked out) than the last chapter did– and I wish I could talk about a lot more than I have the space for. … [Read more...]

Mark Driscoll’s Resignation Letter

letters

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Defeating the Dragons You might have heard the news that broke just a little while ago– Mark Driscoll has officially resigned from being a pastor and elder of Mars Hill. This is exceedingly good news, and while I was not exactly joyful to hear it, I am hopeful that those who have been abused by Mark and the Mars Hill leadership can gain some hope and comfort from this. Mark Driscoll wasn’t the only problem at Mars Hill– no one becomes a spiritual abuser of thousands all by themselves– but he was the most visible example of misogynistic, abusive Christianity and I’m glad he’s gone. … [Read more...]
