Jason Lisle Says There is No Such Thing as an Atheist

by Bruce Gerencser cross posted from his blog The Life and Times of Bruce GerencserImagine, for a moment, that every time someone told me they were a Christian I told them that they weren’t really a Christian because there is no such thing as a Christian. It says right here in the Book of Bruce Almighty® that everyone knows that Bruce Almighty exists and that anyone who says they are a Christian is suppressing their knowledge of the existence of Bruce. The Christian would likely say that they know they are a Christian because Jesus saved them and they believe the teaching found in the Bible. Imagine if I REFUSED to allow the Christian to authentically tell their own story.  Can you ima … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Look ‘Hot’ But Not Too ‘Hot’?

by Bethany Baird at Lies Young Women Believe - When Looking Hot Gets You More AttentionEditor's note: So many times we've discussed the dangerous implications of the whole modesty culture that surrounds Quiverfull and Evangelical Christianity, the shaming and blaming that's done in the name of modesty, how it all plays into the purity culture/rape culture dichotomy and how destroying it can be to your inner self. Now they've come up with a different angle, the hot selfie, that thing many do on social media, they're making it all about your relationship with Jesus. Gah, just wear what you feel comfortable and confident wearing and leave poor Jesus out of it. Life is a much happier place … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Make Cookies & Don’t Stress Out Your Husband By Making Him Do Things

by Todd & Jessica Smartt from Smartter Each Day - 10 Things A Man Needs To Be HappyEditor's note: On the surface this sounds sort of sweet and charming, but it's the essence of what a patriarchal marriage looks like. Man works and uses his free time to go fishing and gets enough alone time not to be stressed out by the kids while the little woman makes sure there are meals, cookies, a clean house and kids trained enough not to stress poor poor Daddy out. This is what Christian Complementarianism looks like. … [Read more...]

How To Win Over Depression – review 88 – 112

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Defeating The Dragons In the two chapters I’m going over today– “The Place of Anger in Depression” and “Self-Pity and Depression”– Tim makes an argument based on commonly held attitudes among evangelicals and fundamentalists. As I’ve talked about in the past, the common understanding in Tim’s circles is that there are “good” emotions and “bad” emotions– and the “bad” ones are sinful. In my experience, there are two emotions in particular that seem to be universally reviled in evangelicalism: anger and self-pity. He is building on that assumption, relying on a typical evangelical’s willingness to accept the claim that all anger and all self-pity is … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Get To Cranking Out Those Babies Young Or Else?

by Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies - God Laughs At Man's WisdomEditor's note: Your Mother's Day fear-mongering, anti-education, anti feminism fear tactics courtesy of Nancy Campbell. How To Win Over Depression – review 49 – 87

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Defeating The DragonsTrigger warning - Christians blaming depression on lack of faith Before we really get into it, I would like to do a brief compare and contrast between what the medical community says and what Tim says about the possible causes for depression. This list is collated from the Mayo Clinic, Harvard Health, and WebMD: … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Nancy Thinks She Knows What ‘Biblical Marriage’ Is?

by Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies - Don't Give  Up Praying!Editor's note: As everyone knows the Supreme Court in the United States is currently mulling over if the states have the right to deny a license in a same sex marriage and if they must recognize same sex marriages from other states as valid. This is what is before the Supreme Court right now. Nancy and others seem to think that this issue is if same sex marriage is legal at all. That's not the only misconception Nancy holds. She actually believes that the only type of 'marriage' approved of in the Bible is one man to one woman. If she bothered to read her Bible for understanding she's find that people in the Bible practiced … [Read more...]

News: The Fall Out From Arkansas Rehoming Representative Justin Harris

Remember back in the spring when the news of Fundamentalist Evangelical Arkansas state rep Justin Harris rehoming his adopted daughters with a sex offender emerged? It has had some good effect, even if Harris is too deluded and shameless to do the right thing and step down from his position in government. It resulted in Arkansas passing a law criminalizing rehoming adopted children without court approval. It remains to be seen if this is going to effect voter support for Harris when he next comes up for reelection. Small steps forward. Now if all the other states in our nation would pass similar laws there would be more protections in place for children of adoption. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Poisonous Christian Purity Culture Even In Africa?

by DE FC Jonnpedro from Facebook as quoted by Vyckie GarrisonEditor's note: Make sure you look at the photo accompanying this post at Facebook. It's set so that it cannot be copied and shared here and it's a representation of slut shaming in the church. He compares a woman's unseen parts to a mine filled with gold and gems, not realizing that mines can collapse, can kill people and are deadly places to be, not always some wonderment filled with treasures untold like in Disney's movie "Aladdin" … [Read more...]

Am I Am Prophet, Priest or King?

by Emily from Christian Patriarchal Watch List For Parents as quoted from Facebook“Is there a test that will tell me if I’m more of a prophet, a priest, or a king?”This is a quote from a young male church planter. He goes on,"I’ve gotten this question a lot lately, and to my knowledge, no such assessment exists.[emphasis added] Most leaders, however, will recognize themselves quite readily in one of the three general profiles..." http://wenatcheethehatchet.blogspot.com/…/prophet-priest-an… … [Read more...]
