I Lost a Part of Me That I Will Never Get Back

by Lana Hope cross posted from her blog Wide Open Ground “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer HT, Ryan Stollar ____ I am not a huge fan of the Dr. Quinn the Medicine Woman series (in fact, I have a whole post written about the literary problems with this series sitting in my drafts, that I have not published). But there is one episode that I have watched over and over and over again. I have watched it so many times I have the lines memorized, yet I still watch it again and again. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Demonizing ‘The Other’ You Don’t Understand?

sorry

by Colin Campbell from Meat For Men - Triumphing Over EvilNLQ is not condoning ISIS  or the beheading of American journalist James Foley or any other militant behaviors by Muslims or any religion or people group. But at the same time how does this type of speech by Colin Campbell help the situation? Seems like it's racist hate speech from here.  How does Colin know the mind of God or anything? Is is alright to pray for the defeat or possible death of those you don't agree with or understand? Men, these blood thirsty terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda, ISIS, Hamas, Boko Haram, and the Muslim Brotherhood, etc., have no match to the earnest prayers of God's humble servants who understand t … [Read more...]

News: Jack Schaap Denied Sentence Reduction

schaap

Turns out that the federal judge handling First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana's former pastor Jack Schaap's appeal on his conviction is not swayed by Schaap's arguments that his lawyers lied to him and that his victim's sexual history should be considered. Last week Judge Rudy Lozano threw out Schaap's appeal, citing that Schaap was recorded at the original case pleading being asked if he understood that by taking a plea deal and pleading guilty he was giving up any right to file an appeal. He also stated at that time that he understood he could be sentenced to as much as life imprisonment for his crime.Judge Lozano's remarks: “This court repeatedly asked Schaap if he understood t … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Media Hiding Birth Control Truth?

lyingmedia

by Meghan McNally from Ladies Against Feminism and the Catholic Vote - A New Cancer Study - And The Media Can't Handle The TruthOn August 1, a cancer study, published in The Journal of Cancer Research and conducted by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, stated that there is evidence that the link between oral contraceptives and breast cancer may in fact be greater than previous studies had indicated. Since the study was first published, there has been a flurry of activity as some writers more eager to defend birth control than to educate women are tripping over themselves and the available data to assure their reading public that the study is, in fact, insignificant.  With Dou … [Read more...]

News: Ben Seewald Moves Onto The Duggar Compound

jessasewald

According to both People magazine and CDN the four hour courting commute between Hot Springs, Arkansas and Tontitown, Arkansas is too much for Jessa's fiance Ben Seewald. So he's leaving his business, his college and his parents to move in with the Duggars.Interesting development and one that seems more likely to be geared toward providing new content for the television show. Ben Seewald is moving to the Duggar homestead, where his courtship with Jessa can be captured for the TLC show, 19 Kids and Counting. Isn't Ben the one that had his own established business in Hot Springs?  Guess this was more important than continuing on in his own business. Does this mean that Ben will e … [Read more...]

by Gina Miller at BarbWire - Godlessness, Safety Nail Polish and 'Rape Culture'We've talked here at NLQ quite a bit about Purity Culture and Rape Culture and how modesty is not the answer to fixing the problem of rape in this country. Kevin Swanson, and Letting the Foxes Guard the Henhouse

Kevin-Swanson

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love, Joy, FeminismDo you guys remember last week’s WORLD Magazine article on abuse and neglect in the Christian homeschooling community? The two solutions suggested by WORLD (and by the Home School Legal Defense Association) were these: (1) the homeschooling community should self police, including investigating educational neglect tips through agreements with state child protective services; and (2) homeschool families should be active members of churches, which will step in if there is a problem.Yesterday Christian homeschool leader Kevin Swanson spent his entire radio broadcast responding to the WORLD article, and it wasn’t pretty—but it was … [Read more...]

In Which I Am the Greatest Threat to Homeschooling

homeschooledkids

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love, Joy, FeminismRemember Thomas Umstattd, that homeschool blogger who spoke out against courtship a few weeks ago? Today he put up a post congratulating Michael Farris for speaking out against patriarchy. And, wow. The problems abound.Homeschool Alumni – The New Internal Threat to Homeschooling We are entering a new era as a movement where our biggest threats are no longer external but internal. Homeschoolers Anonymous (HARO) poses a bigger threat to homeschooling than any teacher’s union. These are homeschool alumni who understand homeschooling from the inside out and who often point out legitimate problems. What gives the HARO power is n … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Chivalry is Important?

Brienne Maid of Tarth and Jaime Lannister - always squabbling over who holds the sword and stands in front of who.

by Jana, Jill, Jessa and Jinger Duggar from their book "Growing Up Duggar" From page 136 - 137: It warms our hearts when we're around young men, including our brothers, who are courteous and quick to practice the fine old art of gentlemanly chivalry. Some women these days think that allowing men to help them with anything makes them appear weak, and they refuse to take a man's hand to help them down a step or object to a man's offer to help them carry a heavy love. However, a gentleman's courtesy is not about women being weak or strong; it's about men needing to be men. Gentlemanly behavior is cultivated as they learn to serve others and treat ladies as ladies.  We encourage these e … [Read more...]
