News: Texas Homeschooling Parents Didn’t Educate Because ‘Rapture’

Coming out of Texas is some rather disturbing information on why one homeschooling family decided not to teach their children the basic minimum of education.  Because they were convinced that the Rapture was coming soon and with the soon return of Jesus educating their was a waste of time. From Addicting Info - Texas Conservative 'Christians' Didn't Educate Their Children Because They Believe The Rapture is Coming … [Read more...]

When Love Isn’t Enough – The Musser Family Tragedy – Part 2

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideBefore Tommy arrived, Susanna was already exhausted: "Get up half an hour earlier because Daniel will be working with his dad and grandpa all day.  Katie and Verity are still dry; take them to their potties right away.  Have Peter fill the humidifiers.  Need to eat.  Make sure to fit in phonics flashcards with the little boys and catch up on our history reading.  Sit down and breathe in the sweet scent of clean heads. Ask John Michael to do his “cleaning the glass” chore before the therapist gets here.  Ask Laura to write baby bath on the grocery list before I forget again.  Have Joshua scrub up some sweet potatoes and put them i … [Read more...]

When Love Isn’t Enough: The Musser Family Tragedy Part 1

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideSixteen years ago, a baby was born in Bulgaria. At four months old, he was placed in an orphanage.   The orphanage young Tommy was placed at was hell on Earth.  The director "modified" the foods fed to the children to prevent them from growing normally.  By doing this, the director kept the children permanently in the youngest/weakest group of the orphanage where the orphanage received the most funds for the children.  Tommy was listed at age 15 as "Male child at 15 years of age, with the following diagnoses: Infantile Cerebral Palsy – Hypotonic form; Severe lagging behind in the physical and neuro-psychical development; Severe p … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: No Personal Agency For Women?

by pastor Steve L. Anderson from the blog Ramblings of Sheldon Listening to women who talk back and argue with you is like experiencing Chinese water torture and Waterboarding. Given the choice, I’d rather experience Chinese Water Torture. Bonus material from The Friendly Atheist from that same sermon: You see all these celebrity women and music stars who are “independent” and “I can do it all myself” types! That is not who I want my children emulating, because “I don’t want them to think that is what a woman should strive to be. The Bible says a woman should strive to have a meek and quiet spirit…” … [Read more...]

Why the Church Needs Feminism

by Kristen Rosser cross posted from her blog Wordgazer’s WordsToday I'm contributing to the Faith & Feminism synchroblog occurring this week, which"invite[s] feminists of all faiths to reflect with us on the interplay between feminist praxis and religious faith." Reading some of the amazing posts there, I'm mostly reminded of how little I know about oppression; how as a white, able-bodied, heterosexual, middle-class woman, I dabble at the edges of intersectional feminism, trying to open my eyes and ears to see and hear beyond my own privilege. But I'm learning.  Thanks to Sarah Bessey's wonderful book on the subject, I have already shared why I'm a Jesus Feminist despite the tendency i … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Not Quiverfull?

by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar from "A Love That Multiples" pages 92-93 We find it amusing how many reporters copy and past information they find about us that someone else has copied and pasted without checking the facts. For instance, even though wiki and some Internet blogs report that we are part of the Quiver Full movement, we are not. We are simply Bible-believing Christians who desire to follow God's Word and apply it to our lives. God says children are a gift and a blessing and we believe it! QUOTING QUIVERFULL is a regular feature of NLQ – we present the … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Duggar Family Compared Abortion to Slavery?

This one is from a Korean gossip site but it appears to be true. Visited the Duggar Instagram site and sure enough, they are using an offensive graphic linking abortion to slavery. Cannot copy the graphic so I'm just linking to it on their Instagram. It's from a Pro Life site called StandTrueDotCom, which is linked to Operation Rescue and run by prominent pro-lifer Bryan Kemper from Ohio. The graphics at the site are pretty over the top and we'll be posting a number of them at the end of this post. From KPopStarz.com - '19 Kids and Counting' Duggar Family Compares Abortion to Slavery on Instagram: Twitter Users Outrage, Jessa Duggar Retweets to Support … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: The Poor Should Starve?

Over the course of today and tomorrow we'll be posting only  Quoting Quiverfull. There's a huge backlog of quotes to be posted here so we're going to do a Quoting Quiverfull marathon to deal with all the things being said out in the blogosphere in the Christian Patriarchal Movement. Starting with Pastor John Hagee and his different understanding of scriptures on the poor.Pastor John Hagee's thoughts on welfare recipients - Christian Pastor: God Says 'Nasty' Welfare Recipients Should Work or Starve  From Right Wing Watch and Americans Against The Tea Party (video available at both sites) … [Read more...]
