Recognizing Sexual Abuse in Children

One of the author's favorite photos of her new grown children.

by Suzanne TitkemeyerOne thing that has happened as a result of the revelations of sexual abuse by Quiverfull super star Josh Duggar is that it has pushed the taboo subject of the sexual abuse of children into the spotlight, engendering a number of conversations on what must happen to expose it, how it should be handled and getting help for the survivors. Those are all great things to consider, that's for sure.I wish there was some way to let his victims know that many of us stand in support of them and their journeys towards healing. Many media outlets have made this about Josh, not being supportive of his victims. That much was evident from the very sloppy redacting of victim … [Read more...]

What TLC’s Duggar Family and Charlie Manson’s The Family Have in Common

Photo from Wikipedia

by Suzanne TitkemeyerLately I've taken to watching NBC's new show "Aquarius" It's set roughly in 1967-1968 time frame and deals with the Manson Family's early years. Plus it's a good solid cop procedural, and you know how I love a cop procedural show. The two lead cops are a straight-laced 1950s style cop named Hodiak and his younger hippie-esque counterpart Shafe. And yes, some of the stories are mixed up with law enforcement and the Manson Family. … [Read more...]

Finally Heard? The Duggar Aftermath

Permissiontolivemelissa

by Melissa cross posted from her blog Permission To LiveWe’ve called out abuse. We’ve talked about this. For years survivors of the fundamentalist christian homeschool movement have told our stories. We asked people to listen, we asked people to help, we asked for some sort of protections to get put into place for isolated homeschooled children. We’ve pointed out the dysfunction as one by one, the leaders of the movement covered up scandals or were toppled by them.We were called bitter. We were told that we were the only ones, that we were alone in our experience. We were admonished that while one or two homeschooling extremists might have issues, we were sensationalizing to suggest t … [Read more...]

Daily Duggar Updates – Day 10

joshanna

Cannot believe we are on day ten after the news of the Duggar scandal and the media is still going strong writing about this. At this point survivors of quiverfull are starting to come out of the woodworks and tell of their lives in the movement. From Huffington Post - Duggar Spinoff Featuring Jill, Jessa and Their Husbands Reportedly In The Works After Molestation ScandalThis story is coming out in so many different media sources it sounds like the cynical money-grubbers over at The Learning Channel are releasing this information to gauge if they can get away with relaunching a Duggar-centric show. Considering almost every major advertiser you can think of has withdrawn from the show … [Read more...]

Updating The Duggars – Day 9

joshanna

Have you read R.L. Stollar's comparison of how two different Joshes, Josh Duggar and Josh Komisarjevsky, raised in ATI and both committing criminal behavior, are being treated by the media and the Christian Community? You should. At Homeschoolers Anonymous - A Tale of Two JoshesLast night there started to be many outlets reporting that TLC was on the verge of retooling Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's show "19 Kids & Counting" into a show that features almost exclusively just Jill & Derick Dillard and Jessa & Ben Seewald and various coming children. Is anyone really interested in watching that because it seems that would be one very dull show. TLC just needs to end all the … [Read more...]

On Growing Up Duggar

lanawideopenground

by Lana Hope cross posted from her blog Wide Open GroundFor months, and for years, I have pleaded with the American public to stop glorifying the Duggar family and to get the Duggars off TV. It has pained me, indeed hurt me, to see a family who grew up in the same subculture as I did, make headlines.I have called 19 kids and Counting, the Duggar’s reality TV show, the Truman Show. Births are filmed and aired on TV. Girls’s virginity are sold to TV advertisers. And the Duggar children never get a taste of the real outside world. In a cult, there is no outside world. Because, in a cult, you are told that everything is more real, more tasteful, and more glorious here, in Christ. … [Read more...]

TLC Did Know About Josh Duggar Sex Crimes In 2007 & Duggar News

This morning In Touch Weekly revealed on their website that there was absolutely no way that The Learning Channel could not have known about Josh Duggar molesting five girls over a period of time. Why? Because TLC film crews were all over the Duggar household in 2007 filming the birth of Jennifer Duggar, August 2, 2007. Josh Duggar sued the Arkansas Dept. of Human Services and went to trial four days later on August 6, 2007. … [Read more...]

Bonus Quoting Quiverfull: Not Everyone Wants To Molest Kids No Matter What Mr. Seewald Says

quotingquiverfull

by Zsuzsanna Anderson from Are They All Yours? - Not everyone is a closet pedophileEditor's note: Color me officially frightened. I'm sort of agreeing with Zsuzsanna regarding Ben Seewald's father stating that anyone would be a molester if they thought there was no consequences and you could totally get away with it. Nope, not so mister. Most of us don't have those impulses or even if you have impulses like that you surely do not ever act upon them! … [Read more...]
