A Short Hiatus and an Announcement

You may have noticed that there have recently been fewer posts than normal. As many of you know I'm moving to Costa Rica shortly. My husband has a position at a Peace Corp language school in a remote part of the country and will be flying out shortly. Which means that the remainder of the packing, storing, shipping the car, watching the contractors finish up the house, dealing with the rental agent, and just general liquidation of our belongs falls on my shoulders. Working sunup to sundown to deal with the move, so there will be fewer posts here for the next week or two until I get everything emptied out of the house. The shippers are coming with the container immediately after Easter so … [Read more...]

Answering ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’ – I Am Stuck

Another installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical,  rational and the best possible solution, in other words 1 … [Read more...]

NLQ Question of the Week: Why Are Evangelical Christians the Only Ones Allowed to Criticize Others?

This is a series we run every Thursday. The questions are things that people who may not know much about the Quiverfull movement or even Fundamentalist or Evangelical Christianity ask about the lifestyle. Examining some of the questions involving Quiverfull theology and life can only shine a light on the toxic nature of this lifestyle choice. One thing has held true in the Quiverfull - Evangelical - Fundamentalist Christian world.  Through the years they feel that only they should have the ability to criticize, correct or teach others. Just check out tonight's Quoting Quiverfull by Steven Anderson and tomorrow morning's with Nancy Campbell. Both are classic examples. Look at the way our … [Read more...]

It’s Not That Complicated: Part 2 Chapter 4

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideAll quoted sections of the book are in blueThis book does have some fun side-effects.  My sister-in-law offered to lend me any and all books from her house to stop me from continuing to read this book.  The offer was tempting, but inflicting this book on my family is sweet.  (Reading chunks aloud....it's a twisted pleasure for me.) Well, we get a glimpse into the teenage Botkin sisters. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: No Flirting But Attract Him With Old Fashioned Way Rules?

by Lisa Hallahan from A Lovely Calling - Being Outgoing With Guys Without Being A FlirtEditor's Note: Some of these ideas aren't bad but seriously, some of this is just really ridiculous like 'Don't laugh loudly' or 'Don't overdo your makeup' yet you are being told to 'Be unique'. How about just simply being yourself. It's not a game or a competition. Like much of fundamentalism this makes what should be simple and natural into something difficult and imbued with odd meaning. … [Read more...]

Answering “Preparing To Be A Help Meet” – Questions To Ask Yourself

Quoting Quiverfull: Bringing Shame To All Christians?

by Zsuzsanna Anderson from her blog Are They All Yours? - My Thoughts on the DuggarsEditor's note: In conculsion Zsu jumps around all over the place, first claiming it might not be too late for Josh, expressing sorrow for the victims before saying that the Duggars should never have been television-chasing, fame-whoring people that would do anything for ratings with this many sorry skeletons in their metaphorical closets. But... how does this shame all Christians?- Yet with all that being said, and I know I will draw immense hate for this from the trolls on this site, I am not convinced beyond any doubt that Josh Duggar himself had reached that point of being a reprobate pedophile … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Without Execution Victims Cannot Recover?

by Zsuzsanna Anderson from her blog Are They All Yours?Editor's note: Everyone's favorite Holocaust denier (check out her latest posting claiming the Holocaust never happened) argues that you cannot begin to recover from sexual abuse if the abuser isn't properly punished via something like execution and without God. She's making some pretty big assertions there for someone with no experience in the field of recovery. She also seems to think that repentance of sins is not enough to be 'saved'. What type of gospel is being preached at Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe?  Tomorrow the conclusion of Zsuzsanna's thoughts on crime, punishment and the Duggars.- Not all who are abused … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: Part 2 – Fleas

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideDebi's mind works in strange, strange ways. SpidersBefore Patricia's flea story, I want to tell you one of my own insect nightmares.  Years ago I got mad at my neighbor for being offensive to her husband.  I stewed, fumed, and even fussed about it to some friends.  I knew I was acting ugly, but I kept my grudge. Debi is angry that her neighbor is being rude to the neighbor's husband.  Debi is so angry at this behavior that she's ruminating on the slight and gossiping behind the neighbor's back.Is Debi twelve?  This is age-appropriate for twelve-year old girls, not an adult woman. She actually has a grudge about her n … [Read more...]
