Quoting Quiverfull: Part 4 Disrespectful Wife Leads to Divorce?

by Larry Solomon from Biblical Gender Roles – Why the Movie ‘Fireproof’ Offers Unbiblical and BAD Marriage AdviceEditor's note: In this segment Larry argues that God's unconditional love does not include unconditional affection, that you only get affection if you are doing everything right the way God wants and that this is how a man should treat his wife too. That is the true recipe for divorce it seems to me. What these sex starved 'Good Patriarchs' don't seem to realize is that by small kindnesses like flowers and cooking dinner they might get more sex. Dismissing these things as unimportant seems to guarantee a permanent headache in many women. … [Read more...]

NLQ Question of the Week: Why is Showing Affection to Loved Ones so Difficult?

This is a new series we have started running on Thursdays. Examining some of the questions involving long held Quiverfull theology and life.Over the last few days we've been looking at Larry Solomon's breakdown of the movie 'Fireproof' and why he thinks it's bad advice for anyone in a Christian marriage. One of his objections is that it required the husband Caleb to do small affectionate … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 3 Disrespectful Wife Leads to Divorce?

by Larry Solomon from Biblical Gender Roles – Why the Movie ‘Fireproof’ Offers Unbiblical and BAD Marriage AdviceEditor's note: I was going to wrap this up today with this third bit, but there's just too much here to cover that bears looking at. Today we're looking at what each partner could have done to save the marriage according to the Gospel of Larry. Get ready for a lot of Catherine-blaming with just a smidgen of blame towards Caleb. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 2 Disrespectful Wife Leads to Divorce?

by Larry Solomon from Biblical Gender Roles - Why the Movie 'Fireproof' Offers Unbiblical and BAD Marriage AdviceEditor's note: Larry lays out where he thinks the blame goes for the marriage problems. Very predictably very little of the blame falls to Kirk Cameron's character. Later today we'll examine Larry's claims that 'Fireproof' was much like his wrecked first marriage. … [Read more...]

Answering ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’ – What To Do When I Think I May Know Who God Has For Me?!?!

Another installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical,  rational and the best possible solution, in other words 1 … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 1 Disrespectful Wife Leads to Divorce?

by Larry Solomon from Biblical Gender Roles - Why the Movie 'Fireproof' Offers Unbiblical and BAD Marriage Advice and per usual we're not going to link to BGR as there is no way to link safely. This is the top article at his blog if you must read it.Editor's note: The movie 'Fireproof' was sort of simplistic and the usual heavy-handed cheesy over the top message that most of these 'Christian' films by Cameron and others seem to always be. It did make some good points about making an effort in your marriage I thought, and showed typical actions/reactions by partners of marriages in trouble. Not entirely toxic, nor entirely good, but not for any of the reasons Larry seems to think. Larry's … [Read more...]

News: Did the Midwife Jill Duggar Dillard Trained With Cause This?

In today's In Touch Weekly online there's a story involving Venessa Giron being blamed for the life threatening health problems of a mother and child. She was the midwife in the birth of Tiffany Nance's daughter Jozzie. What makes this all noteworthy is that this is the same midwife that supervised Jill. Jill was at this birth and Ms. Nance apparently begged Jill to call 911 and have her transferred to the hospital. Plus for added Duggar involvement John-David Duggar was one of the EMTs that took the baby to the hospital. … [Read more...]

Vulnerable

by Cindy Foster cross posted from her blog Finding Fundamental We wander through this life together in a semi-darkness in which none of us can distinguish exactly the features of his neighbor. Only from time to time, through some experience that we have of our companion, or through some remark that he passes, he stands for a moment close to us, as though illuminated by a flash of lightning. Then we see him as he really is.- Albert Schweitzer We all need somebody to talk to. It would be good if we talked ... not just pitter-patter, but real talk. We shouldn't be so afraid, because most people really like this contact; that you show you are vulnerable makes them free to be … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: College Degrees Are a Waste of Money?

by Marc Cohen from No Greater Joy Magazine - From MarcEditor's note: This new issue of No Greater Joy magazine has four articles written by homeschoolers singing the praises of homeschooling while claiming that the lack of college degree hasn't harmed them in the slightest in the job market. While I cannot speak to some of the areas of the career paths most of them have taken I have to say this one particular one, a pilot with the US Army is at best highly exaggerated! A position as a pilot is one of the most coveted and competitive in the entire military and almost always requires the rank of officer AND a college degree. What's likely true is that the author is a Warrant Officer and he … [Read more...]

Created To Need A Help Meet: Part 9 The Washing of the Word (The Most Difficult Review Yet)

by Aletha cross posted from her blog Yllom Mormonp 163-165Today's format is going to be slightly different. There are 2 letters, one from a "spotted bride", the other for her husband. Instead of going paragraph by paragraph and inserting commentary, I am going to type up the letters exactly how they appear in the book, and then talk about each one.I'm going to be honest, I had a hard, hard time writing this post, because it echoed my experience so closely. So forgive me if it's short, scattered, or different than my other reviews. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 5 – Sinful Mothers Produce Rebellious Teens?

by Debi Pearl in the newest issue of No Greater Joy Magazine – Why Are My Teens Rebellious?Editor's note: This is the last little bit. Debi Pearl is starting to sound more and more like she suffers from Stockholm Syndrome and projected that out onto everyone she meets. Do you think she started out so mean and blaming or is this something that gradually developed as Michael abused her? … [Read more...]
