Quoting Quiverfull: Women Be Silent In Church Matters?

by Tim Bayly from The Bayly Blog - Rachel Miller and Valerie Hobbs: Where is the Apostle Paul When We Need Him?Editor's note: Tim Bayly is having what sounds like a ridiculous foot-stomping whiny little hissy fit over the fact that women - W-O-M-E-N - have opinions, options and leadership positions in churches over men. What is it about these weak Christian men that the moment a woman has an opinion they act like someone is trying to cut their penises off with a dull meat cleaver? It does not say anything positive about their shaky grasp of masculinity. Relax, Tim, women aren't out to 'get' you. What did these two women do to invoke the petty behavior of Tim Bayly? Why they openly … [Read more...]

Part 3: Where in the World is Josh Duggar?

There's a lot of strange speculation over Josh Duggar around the media so instead of putting up a post for each one I'm combining all of them into one. Some of these are silly.Various media outlets are still saying that Josh is at Reformers Unanimous in Rockford, Illinois without there being any real evidence that Josh is there. Earlier that same evening the Duggar plane also visited Doug Phillip's stomping grounds of San Antonio, Texas. But some internet commenters at gossip site Perez Hilton are claiming that there have been sightings of Josh in Rockford at RU.  Someone there is taking the name of the possible rehab I came up with for Vyckie's Raw Story article as the gospel truth. We … [Read more...]

Part Two – Tim Keller on the Meaning of the Sex Act in Marriage: A Virtual Dialogue With Shirley Taylor

by Cindy Kunsman cross posted from her blog Under Much GraceThe previous post discussed the Doctrine of the Eternal Subordination of the Son in the Trinity which the Southern Baptist Convention falsely contends has been the only orthodox understanding of the Trinity since the original Biblical texts were penned and a belief always held by theologians. In Keller's book, The Meaning of Marriage, he goes on to quote George Knight III in Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood in a statement of agreement: … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Christians Are Aiding The Coming The Anti-Christ?

by Michael Pearl from No Greater Joy magazine - Prophecy, Preparation, and PanicEditor's note: I'm sharing this because most of the people I know that are still either in the Quiverfull movement or are still hardcore evangelical or fundamentalist Christians are carrying on about the return of Christ and the end of the world occurring sometime between Sept. 15 and Sep. 23. Just a few weeks away. Even Charisma News is getting in on the end of the world bandwagon with this article. Too bad the writer doesn't seem to realize that the day he's predicting that the US stock market will crash is a Sunday and the market does not do active trading on Sundays. But we all know facts never stopped a … [Read more...]

“Lies Women Believe” Review: 63 – 90

by Samantha Field cross posted from  her blog Samantha P Field.comFair warning: today’s post is a little long. Because of that, I’ve decided to break today’s review up into the same sections that Nancy divides this chapter– “Lies Women Believe About Themselves”. Eve’s Diary These diary entries are supposed to reflect in some way the similarities between this fictional Eve and modern women, especially concerning the “lies we believe,” so I wondered if Nancy was ever going to address one particular statement Eve makes in this entry: I don’t know if [Adam will] ever trust me again. In a way, I can’t blame him. I’ve really wrecked his life. I feel so stupid. Adam just doesn’t understand … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Live Like Martyrs To Win Your Children Over To Christ?

by Susan Zakula from Susan's Corner and as the author of those 'interesting' book reviews - Child Rearing---Surprisingly SimpleEditor's note: In an earlier unquoted paragraph she throws shade at Michael Pearl, Gary Ezzo et al. More good Christian Cannibalism going on. They don't have to be persecuted and defamed by non-believers when they do it so well among themselves. So what she's basically saying in this entire article is that you have to be an anti-social weirdo that is ready to be burned at the stake for Jesus in order to raise your children correctly.  It takes a bit more than that. … [Read more...]

Christian Cannabalism and Josh Duggar’s Sins: Michael Pearl Vs. Zsuzsanna Anderson

by Suzanne TitkemeyerIn this month's release of No Greater Joy's magazine there was an article by Michael Pearl supporting the Duggar family over Josh molesting his sisters. Here's what Michael Pearl said in support of the family while claiming that Christians are cannibalizing each other. Apparently we're all supposed to shut up about anything done wrong in the church according to Mikey: … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Women Aren’t Educated Today Because of ‘Mental Laziness’?

by Anna Sophia and Elizabeth Botkin of Visionary Daughters - The History of Womanhood That Feminists Don't Want You to KnowEditor's note: This is the last bit I'll be quoting from this poisonously stupid article. Women aren't educated today because of 'mental laziness'? I dare those young ladies to come to the college language classes I'm taking and tell the young women there that they are mentally lazy. Plus the class ratios seem to be five females for every male in those classes. From every ridiculous statement made by the Botkin sisters in their article I'd have to say that mental laziness seems to be more of a problem in their society rather than in society at large. Emphasis in the … [Read more...]

NLQ Question of the Week: Why Are Double Lives Common in the Leaders?

This is a new series we have started running on Thursdays. Examining some of the questions involving long held Quiverfull theology and life. There's a movie on HBO right now that illustrates the sickness of someone leading a double life.  I don't know if you've seen it yet, so if you haven't you might want to ditch before I spoil it for you. Spoiler Warning for "Gone Girl" … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Biblical Women’s Rights?

by Anna Sophia and Elizabeth Botkin from Visionary Daughters - The History of Womanhood That Feminists Don't Want You to KnowEditor's note: This piece is like a trainwreck that just keeps on sliding and exploding with wrong history and bad ideas. Now they claim that perfect protection and honoring of women occurred in the Bible and in Christian societies, contrary to what most historians say before landing on the if it's not working like that you're doing your Christianity wrong knee jerk response. … [Read more...]

Where in the World is Josh Duggar Part 2?

Earlier in the week we posted here at NLQ speculation that perhaps Josh Duggar was not at a rehab named Reformers Unanimous in Rockford, Illinois because no one had seen him at any of the meetings or church services. There's nothing new to report on that story. But during the research I did for a Vyckie Garrison article that was published at Raw Story (check out the comments because they are pure comedy gold!) something odd appeared. On the FAA flight logs of both Duggar airplanes there were flights landing late at night, like eleven pm or so, and leaving the cities visited in the wee hours of the morn, like two or three am. … [Read more...]

Misunderstanding and Punishing the Character of Children as a Root of Victimization

by Cindy Kunsman cross posted from her blog Under Much Grace Originally published January 2012. This is part of a series on Understanding How Emotional Development in Childhood Affects Adults: Fostering Spiritual Abuse via the "Roots of Victimization" A few days ago, I pointed out that the girls who survived incarceration at Hephzibah House (HH) suffered both trauma/torture and spiritual abuse, and upon leaving, they struggle with unique problems including trauma reenactment, revictimization, and an inability to self-protect. Though some of this relates directly to the debilitation of the self created by the harsh conditions at HH, the roots of these related deficits are created in … [Read more...]
