Humor: Parsing ‘Christianese’

A funny bit from the talented folks at video crew where people who were not raised in Evangelical or Fundamentalist churches try to guess what the coded language of Christian Evangelicalism really means. Enjoy. … [Read more...]

Answering ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’ – Helping A Friend In Her Faith?

Another installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical, OKrational and the best possible solution, in other words … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Cats Are Better Mothers Than Feminists?

by Nancy Campbell of Above Rubies - Inborn InstinctivenessEditor's note: There are several things about this post that just make my blood boil. 1. The phrase "And she is only an animal." as if the little cat is somehow a lesser being than Nancy and 2. the idea that working mothers that have to leave their children to be nurtured by others are not as maternal as her outdoor kitty. How insulting all the way around! Run, kitty, run! … [Read more...]

Answering Quiverfull: Wifely Submission and the Flanders Family

by Vyckie Garrison founder NLQEditor's note: This bit is featuring the disingenuous Flanders Quiverfull family that attempted to pass themselves off as normal Christians on the same Al Jazeera show that had Vyckie on last night. Shared from Vyckie Garrison's Facebook page. … [Read more...]

It’s Not That Complicated: The Introduction

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideWhile my brain continues healing after my car accident, I grabbed an easy to read book to discuss.(Editor's note: Feel better soon Miss Mel! I'm not sure this book is going to help with that!)I picked "It's Not That Complicated: How to Relate to Guys in a Healthy, Sane and Biblical Way" by Anna Sofia and Elizabeth Botkin. The Botkin Daughters interest me.  Based on their website, Anna Sophia was 16 in 2001 which means she's about 30-31 while Elizabeth is two years younger and 28-29 years old.  I'm 34, so we're contemporaries; all roughly members of the older end of the Millennial Generation or more specifically m … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 2 – ‘Star Wars’ Movie Series Message is Kill Christianity?

by Steven L. Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church - Star Wars in Light of the BibleEditor's note: There's just so much from this sermon that belongs here, but there's not enough room or time. I leave you with this, Steven ranting about Darth Vadar being pseudo-Jesus and Buddhism. Why does every single one of his sermons read like a demented justification for hating others, fearing the world and like the ravings of someone without a good grip on mental health? I've read all sorts of odd justifications for Christians hating Yoga but he's managed to come up with a new one here. … [Read more...]

Created To Need A Help Meet – Part 1 The Three Types of Women (Understanding Your Woman’s Motivation)

by Aletha cross posted from her blog Yllom Mormonpp 139-142If you are anything like me, you read the title of this chapter and stopped, did a double take, and then you jaw dropped. Did you re-read the title, just to make sure you got it right? Because I sure did. But it's true. This chapter is about the three kinds of women. Yes, Michael allows that women have personalities. But, of course, the point of learning about women's personalities is to figure out which type your wife is, so that you can more readily "lead" her to be the proper help meet she wants to be. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 1 – ‘Star Wars’ Movie Series Message is Kill Christianity?

by Steven L. Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church - Star War in Light of the BibleEditor's note: This entire long screen that is supposed to be a sermon has some of the strangest hateful points. 1) Star Wars leads to the acceptance of sexual predators, 2) It's Buddhist thought bent on destroying Christianity and 3) Hate, fear and anger are all Biblical emotions that every Christian should feel towards others. So much word salad! … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 3 – Don’t Bore Your Teenagers?

by Michael Pearl from No Greater Joy - What Are We Going to Do?Editor's note: This sounds much like the keep too busy to think style of parenting. But does this work? I don't know, this also sounds like those over-involved helicopter parents that thrive in the wealthier suburbs of the city. Who's to say there aren't sexual predators or bad influences in those classes too? Michael is fighting a losing battle trying to protect his progeny from all negative influences. Would it not be better to teach those children how to deal with predators and others rather than wrap them in emotional cotton wool and keep them isolated? … [Read more...]
