Quoting Quiverfull: Definition of Rape?

drunksex

by Matt Walsh of The Matt Walsh Blog -  We Can't End 'Rape Culture' if We Don't End Hook Up Culture An article on the Huffington Post takes it a step further. In bold italics it exclaims: “Drunk people cannot give consent.” By this logic, of course, all drunk sex is rape. Only this particular article, like most articles on the subject, places the ‘rapist’ label squarely on the shoulders of the man.The obvious question: if both are drunk, and both are unable to consent, but then both have sex, why is the man the only rapist in the transaction? … [Read more...]

Keeping the “Unity of the Body” Without Being a Martyr: You Have the Right to Protect Yourself

Bambam

by Suzanne Titkemeyer cross posted from her blog Seeking The LightHow emotionally triggering has the last week or so been? So triggering that last night I had to post this on my Facebook wall: "Dear Former Fellow Church Members From Raccoon Ford Christian Fellowship - If you are not currently on my friends list and someone I actually still have a positive relationship with please do not send me a friends request. If you behaved hatefully towards me when I left the church I really have no desire to be 'friends' now. I've moved on." … [Read more...]

Christian Reconstruction, ATI, Abuse and Submission: Modesty and Lust Part 3

parisianladies

by SJ Reidhead cross posted from her blog The Pink FlamingoSo-called ‘Christian’ Modesty is a strange critter, at best.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with any group implementing a dress code. Feeling like a rank hypocrite and jerk, where I was once dead set against school uniforms (when I was in school) I now think they are the only answer to any number of problems schools and students face.  If a church or sect, or cult wants to have their plain dress, head pieces, or sailor suits of a Hubbard rear admiral or something, that’s fine.  It is still a somewhat free country where we should be somewhat free to practice what ever form or religion, or no religion, as long as we don’t harm o … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Training Out Undesirable Traits in Kids is THAT Simple?

oldfashionedfather

by Owen Strachan of Desiring God in John Piper's new book 'Good: The Joy of Christian Manhood and Womanhood' - from pages 25 to 26 in the introduction. It’s a story of a little boy whose body was weak. He couldn’t walk, and he was carried everywhere he went. Over time, he became needy, weepy, and constantly made requests of those around him. If you saw him, you would have pitied him. He was not even ten years of age and already way behind. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Dads Should Be Friends With Daughters Intended?

shotgun_wedding

by Marshall Segal at Desiring God - Dads, Date Your Daughters Boyfriends Men, consider this a call to arms. Too many of our young women are giving themselves away to unworthy men because there’s no worthy man in their life to tell them differently. Their craving to finally be loved might cause them to make unhealthy compromises, but it’s far less likely if someone loves them enough to know what’s going on and keep them from destroying themselves. … [Read more...]

Brave New Life: Part 3 The Other Shoe Drops

sadmother

by Melissa cross posted from her blog Permission To LiveThis post is part of a series, click here to start with the introduction. We’d been putting in applications for weeks and not having much luck. It wasn’t really surprising, after growing up the way I did, and then having 4 kids I had basically no resume, and Haley’s was entirely ministerial stuff and we couldn’t exactly list them as a reference. We were also in the middle of changing addresses on everything, and getting all of our other paperwork in order. I passed a local coffee shop and noticed a hiring sign in the window, so I printed out my sad little resume and dropped it off. … [Read more...]

News: Rape Apologia at Christianity Today

If you Google "Youth Pastor Inappropriate" in images Google will bring up a page of hundreds of youth pastors that have been arrested for sexual crimes against youth. This is a problem that is apparently wide-spread but rarely spoken of.

Christianity Today has published an article written by a youth pastor who was caught, convicted and is now in jail for sexually molesting one of the girls in his youth group.  Christianity Today - My Easy Trip from Youth Minister to FelonA few years into my marriage and ministry I began to believe a lie. The realities of parenthood and marriage were sinking in, and I felt unappreciated at home. From my perspective, I was excelling at work and at home—and this perceived lack of appreciation led me to believe I deserved more. … [Read more...]

Talking to Kids About Social Services, Part 2

childrensheart

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love, Joy, FeminismI wrote yesterday about the fear of social services I received from my parents and from the wider homeschooling community. Once I grew up I realized that this fear was both irrational and counterproductive. Social services was not the enemy, and social workers do important work protecting children from abuse and neglect. Sure, social services isn’t perfect, and they sometimes make mistakes. But what good does teaching children to be afraid of social services do? Absolutely none at all. When I had children of my own, then, I determined to do things differently. I wanted Sally and Bobby to see social services not as an enemy but a … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Today’s Men & Women?

adameve

by Owen Strachan of Desiring God in the Introduction for John Piper's new book "Good: The Joy of Christian Manhood and Womanhood" from pages 19 to 20. You can download it for free and it's filled with bad theology enough to make you chuckle on a rainy Friday. We are going to be pulled as men and women toward certain unGodly behaviors. Men today are told that they are idiots, little boys  who never grow up.  We see such cowardice in both Adam's initial failure  to protect the woman God gave him and his subsequent instinct to blame Eve for his sinful leadership (Genesis 3: 1-7) Women today are told that their value is in their looks, or their social skills, or their ability to dominate men. We … [Read more...]

CTBHHM: “Sexual Perversions”

created

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love, Joy, FeminismCreated To Be His Help Meet, p. 174This brief section—only one page—is titled “Exceptions: Sexual Perversions.” This is the very end of Debi’s chapter on loving your husband (which is, of course, all about sex), and it’s what you’ve all been waiting for. Let’s take a look. Anal sex is a homosexual act, and no normal man or woman desires this. The use of pornography has increased this abomination. It is a filthy practice and medically dangerous. Oh, well, that didn’t take long. … [Read more...]

Talking to Kids about Social Services: Part 1

childrensheart

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love, Joy, FeminismI grew up afraid of social services. Social workers were something of a bogeyman in the homeschooling community, and my parents bought into it completely. In fact, in a recent conversation on the topic with my mother, she insisted that social workers today do in fact take children away from their parents for nothing more than homeschooling. That she still says this today says a lot about just how high fear of social workers was in our home when I was a child. … [Read more...]
