Part 1: Young Girl Given Away? -Tragedy, Bankruptcy, and a Stranger

by PropinquaEditor’s note: Isolating children can lead to abuse. Sometimes children are deliberately hidden for the purpose of harm. In other cases, isolation starts out as a way to protect children, but gradually allows a household to get drawn into abuse and violence. Here is the first half of the story of Amish children who were abused when their parents got into a sick relationship with a Rasputin-like figure from outside their community. … [Read more...]

News: Raping For Jesus Because Bible

News story came out of Florida in which a man and his wife sexually abused an orphaned girl living in their home from the time she was 13 until 18 years old. Their justification? The Bible. Raping for Jesus.Turns out that the couple, Rob and Marie Johnnson, follow many of the same views as guys like Biblical Gender Roles from the Old Testament that allows multiple 'wives' and believes there is no such thing as marital rape. Thankfully, the law doesn't agree with them or BGR. They've been arrested. … [Read more...]

Helpful Links For Recovering From Abuse

One of the things that has happened in the wake of Josh Duggar's sexual molestation coming to light has been that both NLQ Founder Vyckie Garrison and myself have started to discuss what is the best response, in what way can NLQ help those that have suffered from similar things, to promote healing and wholeness. One thing we came up with was a list of different types of organizations and people who offer help or information. This is our list. … [Read more...]

This is a new series we’re going to start running on Thursdays. Examining some of the questions involving long held Quiverfull theology and life.Today's question comes directly out of the recent case in Texas of a Quiverfull by adoption father who admitted to raping his daughters and is now going to jail for 37 years. Even though he's admitting to harming their daughters with years of physical sexual abuse this man, Travis Yates, has his wife standing by him like he did nothing wrong. From Dr. Danny Day's blog and petition - Woman Stands By Husband After He Confesses To Raping Daughters … [Read more...]

Not Quoting Quiverfull: Leave Ma Duggar Alone!

by Suzanne TitkemeyerFound this on NLQ founder Vyckie Garrison's Facebook feed this morning. Chicago Now blogger Sue Fitzpatrick has just published one of the most head-in-the-sand defending TLC's show "19 Kids & Counting" and the Duggar family articles ever published outside of the world of Quiverfull Christianity. For some reason this article is published under the "Unemployment Stories" section of Chicago Now, which is a little odd. I think we can all guess what the author is doing while unemployed, watching those all day all night marathons of "19 Kids & Counting". … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Protecting Children From Sexual Predators is Like Protecting Chickens From Foxes?

by Debi Pearl from her blog - Sara Sue Learns to Yell and Tell Predators are a fact of life in today’s society. My chickens are a good example of this. I wanted to raise free-ranging hens, but where I live, that can be a problem. There are lots of wild critters that would love to have a free-ranging chicken dinner. I wanted live chickens, not a crime scene littered with feathers! To have success raising chickens, I had to understand the predators that would snatch them. … [Read more...]

by Cindy Kunsman cross posted from The Spiritual Sounding BoardAfter reading the account of the Lourdes Torres-Manteufel abuse by Vision Forum founder, Doug Phillips, Cindy Kunsman reflects on her own sex abuse story.Note from Julie Anne:  I remember talking to Cindy Kunsman around the time the Lourdes Torres-Manteufel lawsuit was made public. Lourdes’ story greatly affected her in a personal way, reminding her of her own sexually abusive childhood. This sometimes happens when someone else’s story reminds us of our own painful experience. Statistics tell us that there are a lot of people who have been sexually abused. If you have been sexually abused, this may be a sensitive subject f … [Read more...]

Speaking Up About Sexual Abuse

by AJ cross posted from her blog I Am PhoenixI am at the point in my life now where for the last several months, I have felt safe enough to process the past.  Although I was sexually abused when I was a child, I didn’t tell my family then or as an adult. I kept quiet because I was threatened with hell and the devil when I was a kid. I was so traumatized, I pushed most of the memories away and didn’t think about them for over 30 years. Now that I haven't been a Christian for over a year, I've lost my fear of hell and devil, and I finally feel unthreatened and able to process the abuse. … [Read more...]
