I Love My Country, But I Can’t be Patriotic Anymore

by Kristen Rosser cross posted from her blog Wordgazer's WordsThis Fourth of July, I have a confession to make.I used to wake up every Independence Day morning with "God Bless America" on my lips.  I used to feel a thrill of excitement and reverence when I faced the flag and pledged allegiance, when I put my hand over my heart and sang along with The Star-Spangled Banner.I still say the Pledge.  I still put my hand over my heart, and I still sing the National Anthem. I still love America. … [Read more...]

Christian Reconstruction, ATI, Abuse, & Submission: Modesty and Lust Part 5

gardenofeden

by SJ Reidhead cross posted from her blog The Pink FlamingoI’m not a strong advocate for sex outside of marriage.  I am certainly no advocate for adultery, which I think is wrong.  It’s one of the Ten Big Ones, as in Thou Shalt Not.  But, fornication, which is sex between individuals who are not married either to one another, or anyone else, is not considered a major sin.  I do think, though, it is an invitation to complicate one’s life.  That’s why I avoid the subject, and the process.  It’s complicated, complicating, and just tends to get in the way of life.  Maybe that’s a cop-out, but I have enough problems right now.  I don’t need to deal with the emotional ups and downs of an involv … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Technology is Better in Homeschooling?

Quotes1-300x250 (2)

by Mary Pride of Homeschooling World Magazine - Homeschool Goes High Tech Homeschooling is now clearly more sophisticated than classroom education. We have more (and better) resources to draw upon. We can adapt the latest technology more quickly. We are far more committed to finding out what works, as opposed to what sounds impressive on someone's resumé. … [Read more...]

Westboro Baptist Church comment on No Longer Quivering: Judge who sentenced child abuser “clearly wasn’t spanked enough as a child”

Westboro Baptist Church No Longer Quivering

by Vyckie GarrisonI just came across this graphic on Facebook. We recently had someone from Westboro Baptist Church post a hate-filled, bible-thumping comment on No Longer Quivering - guess we must be doing something right to have attracted WBC's attention. (◕‿◕✿) Dane County Judge Maryann Sumi sentenced Pastor Philip Caminiti to 2 years in prison for preaching the standard of God Almighty as spelled out in the scriptures. This unjust judge swung her judicial gavel at God and the clear teachings of the Bible on how to love one’s children: “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.” (Proverbs 13:24). Judge Sumi called it conspiracy to commit ch … [Read more...]

Quiverfull and the Introvert: Where Do You Get Your Energy?

by Barbie Getzreal"Where do you get your energy?!"This is a question which is frequently asked of Quiverfull moms by amazed and admiring onlookers who cannot imagine being able to keep up with the exponential demands of "biblical womanhood" including: perpetual pregnancy, child-bearing, adopting sibling groups, breastfeeding, baby wearing, chronic sleep deprivation, raising half a dozen or more closely-spaced, "stair-step" children, homeschooling - year round through chronic illness, child-training, character training, tomato-staking, discipling children, homemaking, penny-pinching, organic gardening, baking from scratch, once-a-month cooking, homesteading, sewing modest clothing, s … [Read more...]

Karma Will Run Over Your Dogma & Squash It

by Calulu(Editorial note: What follows below is my own personal thoughts on this, no one elses, I'm not speaking for the group, just me. I cannot stay silent to this. If you're offended or triggered I'm so sorry. Warning if you are triggered by scriptures or the like.)This morning several of us at NLQ were directed to look at "Women's Prayer Group Praying That the Women at MRFF All Get Incurable Breast Cancer"  posting on  Free Thought Blogs.Apparently there is a group of ladies calling themselves Christians who've decided to make praying for the death of anyone connected with the Military Religious Freedom Foundation their number one priority. And why is that? Perhaps because t … [Read more...]

An Introduction to Paul

By PaulVyckie Garrison has asked me to write an introductory post concerning my blog, paulspassingthoughts.com, and the timing is perfect. After researching New Calvinism for five years now, I have recently discovered a relationship between New Calvinism and Patriarchy groups. This is a very significant development.New Calvinism shapes most of the Christian landscape in our day. It came out of the Progressive Adventist movement in 1970. The base doctrine is the centrality of the objective gospel outside of us. It teaches that all truth is outside of us and encapsulated in the gospel. By understanding Christ and his works in a deeper and deeper way, we manifest one of two realms, … [Read more...]

Justice is No Lady: Chapter 10 My Right to Be Heard

By Tess WilloughbyNate got another partner almost immediately. He found her on a Christian dating site. Patty had money from her millionaire father and a big house paid for by the government salary of her estranged husband. Nate had told me that remarriage for me was unbiblical, but he found a loophole in Scripture and told the children that he and Patty were already married in God’s eyes. God having spoken, Nate moved into Patty’s house and put our marital home up for rent.Nate wrote me a letter warning that if I did not “come to terms” (give him full custody of the children), he would hold a big yard sale and sell off everything in the house that belonged to me and the kids. He had … [Read more...]

Doug Phillips on the Threat of Population Decline

Libby Anne has an interesting article this morning at Love, Joy, Feminism addressing overpopulation (an issue which is only controversial among those fundamentalist Christians who hold that the Genesis command to "be fruitful and multiply" still applies today):I recently ran across an article on Vision Forum president Doug Phillips’ blog, in which he repeats a line I heard so often growing up: Our world isn’t facing an overpopulation crisis, but is rather headed toward a demographic decline that will result in economic catastrophe. In other words, having 12+ children doesn’t contribute to overpopulation but rather serves as a way to fight and avert the potential problems of demographic de … [Read more...]

Carefully Scripted Lives – The Real Reality of the Duggar Family "Blessings"

by Libby Anne I can’t say how often I’ve heard ordinary Americans defend Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and their popular TLC television show, 19 Kids and Counting. “I wouldn’t choose to have nineteen kids,” they say, “but if they can manage it, who am I to question their choice?” “The kids look happy and healthy,” they say, “look how polite and well mannered they are.” I hear these comments and I just have to sigh.First of all, I want to point out that I would have concerns about the Duggars even if they were your ordinary family plus seventeen extra children. For one thing, there is no way any two parents can give nineteen children the individual attention and time they need. It’s just no … [Read more...]
