Preparing To Be A Help Meet: The Priest Part 2

preparing

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids Collide In this installment, Debi struggles to create 'down sides' for the Steady/Priestly Man.  She manages to find one problem that might cause actual problems and makes-up three others that are really tame compared to the hell of being married to a Prophet or a King. Oh, but Debi does figure out how to rag on women. … [Read more...]

by the Duggar daughters in their book "Growing Up Duggar" - Par 127-128 Here are some cautions to think about before putting yourself in a situation where you are alone with a guy. First, if a guy cannot control himself with you before he is married, how are you going to trust him about other women after you marry him? … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: The Prophet: Part 5

LA3035-001

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids Collide Ah.... The last section on the Prophet begins.  Debi, prophetically, informs us of how in-laws will destroy your marriage. "Having the blessing and guidance of parents is priceless for many reasons." The fact that Debi home-schooled her children terrifies me.  With the topic sentence above, a reader would expect to the author to explain why the blessing and guidance of parents is useful. There is NOTHING in this chapter that supports that sentence.  ZIP. ZERO. NADA. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Wedding Fetish?

michellejimbobwedding

It seems that Jill Duggar's recent marriage to Derick Dillard is making Michelle Duggar wax poetic about her own wedding to Jim Bob. Does it strike anyone else that reenacting your wedding every year is a little 'odd'? It seems to be normal in the Evangelical Fundamentalist Quiverfull world to turn daily life, babies, cooking, keeping house, etc, etc, into a fetish-like thing. From US magazine  - Michelle Duggar Reminisces about her simple wedding to Jim Bob Duggar "As our children were growing up, we would listen to our wedding cassette again every year on our anniversary," she wrote. "We would reenact the ceremony, show them how we walked down the aisle, and tell them the stories … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: The Prophet Part 3

preparing

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids Collide Last time, I gathered up all of the general descriptions of Prophet / Visionary Men that Debi sprinkled through Chapter 3.  Now, we get to move on to the specific examples of what life with a Prophet/Visionary Man is like according to Debi. "The Prophet type will make a great boyfriend because he will focus totally on his sweetie.  He will be very romantic, giving you flowers and gifts.  If you catch the heart of a Prophet you will be his consuming passion, his greatest challenge, his dream come true. " In other words, the Prophet is in love with being in love with you.  That's not a great foundation for marriage. … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be His Help Meet: Creative Interpretations of the Book of Ruth

preparing

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids Collide After Debi finishes twisting Esther from an active woman into a passive girl, Debi turns her attention to Ruth.  In her discussion of the Book of Ruth, Debi pulls a two-fer: Ruth is a passive follower as befits a young girl while Naomi, a wise older woman, gives her great counsel.  In short, Debi uses the story of Ruth to imply that Debi's young, naive readers should follow Debi's ideas unquestioningly.   On a positive note, Debi is blessedly brief on the subject. Away we go! … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: Michael and Debi’s Love Story – Part Two

preparing

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids Collide (Editor's note: I know I'm posting these out of sequence. I overlooked the continuation of the Pearl's love story. Rectifying that now. This is what happens when you kill off brain cells listening to the Duggars, Swanson and others daily.) Preparing to Be A Help Meet: Debi and Michael's Love Story - Part Two In Part One, Debi goes to a youth gathering at a local church and is told by God that she's going to marry Michael Pearl.  She's 13.  He's approximately 21.  Yipee. Debi goes home and tells her mom the good news: "Then I casually told her that God had spoken to me and told me that, when I grew up, the … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Can Men and Women Simply Be ‘Friends’?

justfriends

Did you know that Debi Pearl has another book out "Preparing To Be A Helpmeet"? At the No Greater Joy Ministries website there is a small site for the book where you can ask questions and get answers about all those things plaguing you about your role as a helpmeet. Someone named Pumpkindoodle asked a question about non-sexual/non-romantic friendships between men and women and someone named Daddysgirlleh replied. … [Read more...]
