Preparing To Be A Help Meet: The King Part 2

Henry The VIII's queen Anne Boleyn discovered the hard way what happens when you disappoint the King.

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideNow, Debi normalizes abusive relationships. "These types are known for expecting their wives to wait on them hand and foot.  A Kingly Man does not want his wife involved with any project that prevents her from serving him.  If you are blessed to win the favor of a strong, forceful, bossy man, then it is very important for you to learn how to serve with joy."What kind of sick blessing is that?   Waiting hand and foot on a tyrant isn't a blessing; it's a curse. "Kingly Men are not as intimate or vulnerable as other men in sharing their personal feelings with their wives.  They seem sufficient unto themselves.  It can leave a sen … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: The King Part 1

The King - sort of like King Joffrey from "Game of Thrones"

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideI hate this chapter.  All of it.  Hate. This deserves a trigger warning for abuse, abuse rationalization, and hideously bad grammar."Moral to the Story: The wife to a King must learn to serve him with honor.A Caution: Don't be offended by his lack of serving or helping you in the mundane things of life." Why shouldn't I be offended?  He's being an ass. "God the Father is dominant, sovereign, and in command.  He is the King of Kings.  He created a few men who are like him in this aspect; they are kingly men.  In my book Created To Be His Help Meet, I called them Command Men, because that is their most dominant feature. " The res … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: The Priest Part 4

little snappy

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideIn the last installment on the Priestly Man, Debi makes marriage sound nice.  Her advice is actually pretty good in this section."Your Priestly Mr. Steady will not expect you to cook, clean and serve him, but he might enjoy being in the kitchen cooking with you. " *looks around for the horsemen of the Apocalypse* A husband who won't expect his wife to be a domestic servant? A man who likes to cook?  Will the wonders never cease? Welcome to the 20th century, Debi.  Perhaps you'd like to join the rest of us in the 21st century?  Egalitarianism is a good deal for both parties."If he does, and if you are a perfectionist, unhap … [Read more...]

CTBHHM: Discretion and the Jewel in the Pig’s Nose

jeweled pig

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love, Joy, FeminismCreated To Be His Help Meet, pp. 188—189Here we begin the chapter titled “To Be Discreet.” Debi of course starts by quoting Titus 2 once again, given that she is going through it’s pieces one by one and the phrase “that they may teach the young women . . . to be discreet” is the subject of this chapter. She then defines “to be discreet”:To be discreet: Prudent; wise in avoiding error and in selecting the best means to accomplish a purpose; circumspect, courteous, polite, honest dealings. There’s nothing terribly wrong with that. Now, though, I’m bracing myself for Debi’s spin on it, because Debi so very frequently take … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Protecting Children From Sexual Predators is Like Protecting Chickens From Foxes?

chickens

by Debi Pearl from her blog - Sara Sue Learns to Yell and Tell Predators are a fact of life in today’s society. My chickens are a good example of this. I wanted to raise free-ranging hens, but where I live, that can be a problem. There are lots of wild critters that would love to have a free-ranging chicken dinner. I wanted live chickens, not a crime scene littered with feathers! To have success raising chickens, I had to understand the predators that would snatch them. … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: The Priest Part 2

preparing

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideIn this installment, Debi struggles to create 'down sides' for the Steady/Priestly Man.  She manages to find one problem that might cause actual problems and makes-up three others that are really tame compared to the hell of being married to a Prophet or a King.Oh, but Debi does figure out how to rag on women. … [Read more...]

CTBHHM: Daycare is Adopting Your Kid Out

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love, Joy, FeminismCreated To Be His Help Meet, pp. 184—185We are still in Debi’s chapter on loving one’s children. Last week we got to the first part of the chapter that actually contained some actually good advice. This had to do with the importance of a mother working one on one with her children, and teaching them little things all through the day—what goes in soup, how to sound words out, and how to fold laundry. I really did like that Debi said a mother should work directly with an individual child even in a large family, though I felt she didn’t follow that up with helpful how-tos and risked leaving overwhelmed mothers of large families … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: The Priest Part 1by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideI like this chapter - especially compared to the Visionary Man chapter and the King chapter.  The Priest/Steady Man seems to be a nice, calm, down-to-earth kind of guy. Most of the chapter focuses on explaining additional negatives about being married to a Prophet or King because if you are reading her book you should be preparing for marriage to a lunatic.  You have been warned. … [Read more...]

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideFinally, at long last, Debi graces us with actual tips on how to live with a Prophet/Visionary man."If you marry a Visionary Man, learn to enjoy the trip, for if he ever makes a better light bulb, he will want you to be the one who turns it on for the first time in public.  It will be your face he looks into to see the marvel of what a great thing he has done.  You are his most important fan.  When you know your man really needs you, you can be happy with just about anything."Start taking acting classes, ladies!  Remember, you need to look enthusiastic even if the invention/idea is absolutely awful.  If you keep acting lo … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: The Prophet Part 3

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideLast time, I gathered up all of the general descriptions of Prophet / Visionary Men that Debi sprinkled through Chapter 3.  Now, we get to move on to the specific examples of what life with a Prophet/Visionary Man is like according to Debi."The Prophet type will make a great boyfriend because he will focus totally on his sweetie.  He will be very romantic, giving you flowers and gifts.  If you catch the heart of a Prophet you will be his consuming passion, his greatest challenge, his dream come true. "In other words, the Prophet is in love with being in love with you.  That's not a great foundation for marriage. … [Read more...]
