The Delusional Followers of Convicted Felon Jack Schaap

jackschaap

by Bruce Gerencser cross posted from his blog The Way Forward Just when I think the Independent Fundamentalist Baptist (IFB) church movement can go no lower into the muck they surprise me. Delaine Rae, a recent guest post writer, a former IFB preacher’s kid, sent me a link to a Jack Schaap FAN page. I kid you not.  This page was started AFTER Schaap’s arrest and conviction and has comments as recent as a few days ago. … [Read more...]

Why Do People “Drink The Koolaid”?

koolaid

by Kristen Rosser Over at No Longer Quivering they have been talking about why people-- and particularly why women-- get involved with repressive, spiritually abusive, authoritarian religion.  Why is it, for instance, that so many women are drawn into-- and drag their sometimes reluctant husbands into-- the … [Read more...]

by Libby Anne Raised Quiverfull Introduction — Questioning Summary Please be sure to click the above links to see an introduction to and explanation of this project, which involves a panel of nine young adults who were raised in Quiverfull families and have since questioned and left that ideology answering questions about their experiences.     Question 1: What sort of a church did your family go to while you were growing up? Hot Pink A & ‘Good’ Christian Disapproval – SASBN

hotpinkA

by Calulu I've been putting off doing my introductory piece for No Longer Quivering's Spiritual Abuse Survivor Blogs Network because I was stuck in writers block land. That fun place were you can't put a finger to the keyboard and come up with any that makes any sense at all on certain subjects.  Besides, my blog is more boring day to day with a dash of gluten free recipes posted and the odd commentary on something from my old church life. I'm not intellectually dissecting harmful spiritual beliefs. I leave that to those more intelligent and less ADD than myself. So I never felt like I could contribute as much as the others to the SASBN. I do talk frequently about my friend Josie's … [Read more...]

Baptist Taliban: Part 3

by Cindy Foster THE CHURCH WE WERE The Preacher and his wife graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. At the time he attended there, the college was quite conservative. There were strict rules about dress, dating, curfews, entertainment, music and much more. The Preacher actually grew up in Springfield and was a member of a church that was not nearly as rigid in its standards as the college was, so in the beginning of his ministry as pastor, he did not have the extreme beliefs that he eventually embraced later in his ministry. It was several years after the church had started and was established with its own building that the more relaxed climate began … [Read more...]

Submission and Prison Cells: Part 2

by Melissa Permission to Live Click here for Part One Let me start by saying a sincere “I am sorry” to “Yellowbunnys” (whoever she was, and wherever she is now) and to all the other women I shamed that day. I was wrong. I was arrogant. I was hurtful. It is painful for me to even read what I believed then, much less how I judged others and tried to force them to believe it too. At the time I wrote that, I was barely getting past Post-Partum Depression with my first baby, and was about to be hit with a second wave of it after the birth of my second. I struggled to fulfill my self-imposed idea of perfection, but believed that any and all of the seeming problems with … [Read more...]

NLQ FAQ: Is No Longer Quivering an Atheist Website?

Reposting for those newer Patheos readers to know more about us and what we believe September 16, 2010 By Guest Contributor 19 Comments by Vyckie I recently r ece ived a n email from “Henrietta” who asked: If I choose to get involved here, contribute etc, am I part of a Christian but anti QFP group; or an anti Christian and esp anti QFP group? It is ironic that NLQ seems to be perceived quite differently depending on the perspective of the reader. We have several new readers who are commenting here on the blog ~ conservative, Quiverfull Christians who are convinced that NLQ is nothing but angry, pro-abortion, Feminazi Atheists.  On the other hand, MoJoey at … [Read more...]

Raised Quiverfull: Questioning Q. 3

by Libby Anne (and friends) Cross posted from  Love, Joy, Feminism. Raised Quiverfull Introduction — Questioning Summary Please be sure to click the above links to see an introduction to and explanation of this project, which involves a panel of nine young adults who were raised in Quiverfull families and have since questioned and left that ideology answering questions about their experiences. What did you struggle with most when you were in the midst of questioning and/or leaving Christian Patriarchy/Quiverfull ideology? What was the hardest part? Joe: Hell.  I struggled with that for all of five minutes.  Then, it didn’t matter anymore.  There was no proof … [Read more...]

Millipede: Part 8

pleasinggod

by Millipede The next couple of years were what I would call the "golden years" of Patriarchy. By this I mean that we were living the Patriarchal dream, with the husband "leading" and providing and the wife keeping the home and being submissive. It was the apex of our journey; we were finally living the lifestyle. As i wrote earlier it was during this time that I experienced the joys of having the time to pursue varied interests. My husband drove overland the first year or so and then the latter part, he had a regional route. This meant that he was gone for weeks at a time when he was going across country. Later, with a regional route, he was home every weekend. In retrospect, I think … [Read more...]

Westboro Baptist Church comment on No Longer Quivering: Judge who sentenced child abuser “clearly wasn’t spanked enough as a child”

Westboro Baptist Church No Longer Quivering

by Vyckie Garrison I just came across this graphic on Facebook. We recently had someone from Westboro Baptist Church post a hate-filled, bible-thumping comment on No Longer Quivering - guess we must be doing something right to have attracted WBC's attention. (◕‿◕✿) Dane County Judge Maryann Sumi sentenced Pastor Philip Caminiti to 2 years in prison for preaching the standard of God Almighty as spelled out in the scriptures. This unjust judge swung her judicial gavel at God and the clear teachings of the Bible on how to love one’s children: “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.” (Proverbs 13:24). Judge Sumi called it … [Read more...]
