Quoting Quiverfull: God Requires Everything?

by Pastor Davey Blackburn as quoted by Christian Post - Pastor Davey Blackburn Says God Allowed Wife's Murder So The Church Could LiveEditor's note: So Pastor Blackburn didn't shoot his wife like I thought he did. But he's now saying the exact type of things that makes quiverfull and evangelicalism sound so mentally off and just plain old crazy. So God took his wife so that the church could 'come alive'? That doesn't even make any sort of sense. Sounds more like the grieving widower is doing what many in that culture do when bad things happen - immediately come up with some far-fetched reason God would allow it to happen. Sometimes there are no logical reasons why tragedy happens. … [Read more...]

Cry Baby

by Kaleesha Williams cross posted from her blog The Lost (and Found) Mind of Kaleesha WilliamsWho are you crying for? Me. I weep for myself, for the me that was.  Part of the grief process, I suppose.  The stark contrast between my life now and the life I was living two years ago continues to jump out at me at occasionally and I end up in tears.  The scars are all there… … [Read more...]

Peace in Life and Death

by Kaleesha Williams cross posted from her blog The Lost (And Found) Mind of Kaleesha WilliamsToday Denny laid to rest one of his closest friends, his little dog, Talula, who has been with him since he rescued her as a pup about fifteen years ago.He posted a picture to Facebook, of Talula on her last day, and the condolences began to roll in. Among them, however, there was a comment from a local chap with whom we are nominally acquainted, a Christian who never comments unless he sees an opportunity to witness to us. Why we have remained friends online is a mystery even to me. Maybe I’m reluctant to shut anyone out. He’s not been unkind, just pushy about his faith. … [Read more...]

Part 4: I Submit and “Resign”

by Living Liminal cross posted from her blog Living LiminalIn the weeks following that meeting with the board, there were many communications (mostly via email) which just deepened the wounding. As dramatic as it might sound, I felt like I was fighting for my very life. I begged for someone to listen to me, to hear what had been going on and help me find a way out of my pain. By this time, elder M had given up hope and resigned his membership. I desperately wanted to believe there was a better way to go, that people who claimed to follow Christ should be able to work this out together, that we didn’t have to stay trapped in an endless repetition of history! … [Read more...]

God Killed Our Baby: Isn’t God Awesome?

by Bruce Gerencser cross posted from his blog The Way ForwardEvangelical Christians believe that their God is the giver and taker of life and that he controls the universe. As the old song goes, he’s got the whole world in his hands. Everything that happens in their life is according to the purpose and plan of their God. When tragedy comes their way, Evangelicals turn to prayer and the Bible to find hope and comfort. The Bible says in Romans 8:28: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. … [Read more...]
