The Destiny of a Virtuous Daughter ~ Part 3: Pop Guns & Purity Rings

by Starfury Growing up, I read books like The King's Daughter, Dear Princess, Beautiful Girlhood, Waiting for Her Isaac, and The Courtship of Sarah MacLean over and over. I would plan out having twenty six children, so I could use every letter of the alphabet when I named them. I would try to devise my own homeschool curriculum based on the ones I had used, and what I liked and didn't like about them. On top of all that, I was writing my own Proverbs 31 devotional. And yet, somewhere in all of this, I was still punching things into a "computer" on a tree, and yelling for everyone to get out and climb the Jeffries Tubes because of a warp core breach. Rather than make a hoop skirt, I made a … [Read more...]

No Charity in the Remnant ~ Part 8: Bull in China Shop

by Whisper Rain Whisper was taken under the wing of some of the godly people at her new church. They taught her how to sew, and how to cook the way they did... which was very different from what she was used to. She felt like there was so much she needed to learn and re-learn to be a truly godly woman, but she was willing to do it! Where would she be if she hadn't met these people? Not living the way God expected her to, that was for sure! She was so thankful God had led her to a group of people who really understood what he wanted- people who were serious about God, and who would do anything he told them to. Looking around at the average, "professing christians" living such "lukewarm" … [Read more...]

No Charity in the Remnant ~ Part 7: She Trusted Them Because She Trusted God …

by Whisper RainThe months that followed were a bit of a blur. Whisper's newfound happiness was getting attention, and she had to figure out how to explain it. People would just walk up to her out of the blue and ask her what happened, because she looked like a different person. At the time, the simplest explanation that made the most sense (in the context of the teaching in her new church) was that she had finally surrendered herself to God completely. Yes, it felt a little "off" to put it that way... it was a woeful oversimplification at best... and a complete fabrication at worst. But Whisper didn't know how to explain what had happened, so it didn't seem like such a big deal to let … [Read more...]

The Destiny of a Virtuous Daughter ~ Part 2: My New Love

by StarfuryFor as much as my parents objected to many worldly things, they gave in on a surprising number of equally worldly things. Most notably, in my case, was the subject of ballet. I had always wanted to dance from a young age, and when I was 8, my parents finally agreed to let me begin to take classes. This was often something I was reminded to be grateful for--they weren't as conservative as other families, after all.In truth, I was grateful for it. I loved it with all my heart, and had great dreams of practicing hard and winding up as a prima ballerina for some famous worldwide touring company and performing all the famous ballets. There was only one problem with this idea... I … [Read more...]

It's Not About the Clothes!

[Note: For NLQ readers who have not yet joined the forum, here's a small taste of what you're missing ~ :) ] by Whisperthroughtherain When I was little, before we moved to the Bible belt, getting dressed was simple. I liked wild colors and animal prints. I felt so pretty when I got my ears pierced. In the summer when it was hot, nobody thought twice about running around in a bikini... Most of us did. Even chubby grandmas! We had pool parties and ordered pizza and my cousin taught me to swim. I thought he was great. Sometimes little boys tried to kiss me, but I just ran away. When I was a little older, we got involved with a southern, backwoods Baptist church. In Sunday school they taught us … [Read more...]

Testing the Spirit of Quiverfull: Perfectionism & Elitism

by Kristen Rosser ~ aka: KR WordgazerBeloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. I John 4:1Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Acts 20:30Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Galatians 5:1The above passages warn us that not every movement that says it is following Christ’s teachings, actually is. How can we know the difference?Jesus said “Ye shall know them by their fruits. (Matthew 7:16).” Galatians 5:22-23 says that out of the “liberty” s … [Read more...]

NLQ FAQ: The Bible and the Nature of Woman

Note:  Before reading this, please read the “Quiverfull and the Bible” FAQ.  Like the “nobleminded Bereans” (Acts 17:11), we are entitled to study for ourselves, so that we may read the Biblical text in an informed manner.  That FAQ provides the background for the method of informed Bible reading used here.by Kristen Rosser ~ aka: KR WordgazerQ: Doesn't the Bible say I was created to be my husband's helpmeet, that God designed me to joyfully give myself to my husband's vision for our family? To see what God's plan and purpose for women is, we need to go back to the beginning-- Genesis 1.  What is the first thing the Bible says about women?"And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, … [Read more...]
