Answering ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’ – How Do I Help My Friend Who Fell In Love With The Wrong Guy?

Another installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical,  rational and the best possible solution, in other words 1 … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 5 Disrespectful Wife Leads to Divorce?

by Larry Solomon from Biblical Gender Roles – Why the Movie ‘Fireproof’ Offers Unbiblical and BAD Marriage AdviceEditor's note: Now we're moving on to Larry's comparing his first failed marriage to the things he thinks are wrong in 'Fireproof'. Turns out that the movie was released about the same time as he was divorcing his first wife and that someone in church leadership insisted that Larry make like Caleb in the movie and practice sacrificial love. That didn't go over very well at all. I apologize in advance for the length of today's quote, but we're pushing through towards the end of this mess. This is the next to last bit. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 3 – Any Other Man’s Attention Wrecks Your Marriage?

by Becky Thompson of BeckyThompson.com – Beware of Quicksand: How One Stranger’s Comment Changed My Marriage ForeverEditor's note: This last bit makes me feel sad for the author. Marriage shouldn't be a battlefield that you're constantly having to toil at to make work. If it's that much work and stress it's not much of a marriage there to revive. Sometimes a kind comment has nothing to do with attempting to turn your heart towards anyone, it's a small thing done by someone that sees you're having some sort of issue that day, or senses you need a little bit of a lift to get through your day. … [Read more...]

NLQ Question of the Week: Why Are Some Sins Unforgivable – Duggar Family Edition?

This is a new series we have started running on Thursdays. Examining some of the questions involving long held Quiverfull theology and life. This question comes directly out of the various tabloid reports of Josh Duggar returning home from Reformers Unanimous. Why is the sin of molesting little girls ruled to be forgivable yet infidelity and pornography aren't? To me this seems backwards, it seems like molesting children would be the bigger sin. … [Read more...]

News: The Josh Duggar Mess Intensifies

This past Thursday afternoon there was a meeting in Pennsylvania between both sides in the ongoing lawsuit against Josh Duggar. So far no word on what happened in that get together. One of the big issues with the case is that the federal judge has required plaintiff Danica Dillon to show the courts any proof that what she alleges Josh Duggar did to her during two paid sexual encounters impacted her ability to earn a living. According to The Inquistr her attorney asked for an extension on the time frame to gather and submit that proof during the Thursday meeting. … [Read more...]

News: Josh Duggar Files Motion To Dismiss Lawsuit

It was obvious that this was coming. Josh Duggar isn't denying he had paid sex with adult entertainer Danica Dillion, he's now filed a lawsuit to ask the judge to dismiss her lawsuit according to the Daily Mail and Radar Online. His legal team seems to be saying in the documents that Josh doesn't dispute having sex with Dillion outside of marriage or that he paid her for her services, but that Dillion hasn't shown any evidence that she was somehow harmed by this transaction. Duggar's attorney says because Josh didn't intentionally try to inflict harm on her on purpose there's not legitimate case. Hearing on January 21st to rule on this motion. From the legal papers: … [Read more...]

News: Where in the World is Josh Duggar?

While People Magazine and other tabloids are speculating mightily about the type of treatment Josh Duggar may be receiving at Reformers Unanimous in Illinois some rather curious news comes out of that area. No one in Rockford, Illinois has actually spotted Duggar among the other recovering addicts at RU. He hasn't been seen coming or going from the mandatory twice a Sunday services at North Love Baptist Church. Which is odd considering it would be a mandatory part of his recovery process at RU. There has been absolutely no sightings of Josh anywhere in Rockford or RU. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Making Jokes Leads To Infidelity?

by Ben Reaoch from John Piper's Desiring God - Life Is Short, Love Your SpouseEditor's note: While most of the advice on how to avoid having an affair is reasonable and good this little bit about humor is just sort of out there. I'm always amazed at the situations that extreme Christians claim can cause you to fall into sin. If every single thing on this planet causes you to sin then what options do you have? Infidelity is a conscience choice, not some random event that happens to you without your permission. Man up about the reality of it please. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Judgmentalist Is Good If You Are Judging Sin?

by J. Matt Barber from Renew America.com - Adulterers, 'Your sin will find you out'Editor's note: One thing you can count on with squishy nasty things happen in the world of fundamentalist Christianity, there will be all sorts of interesting judgmentalism, sometimes even mixed with forgiveness or calls to forgive.  So it's a-okay to judge someone because God has already judged their sin? More moral limbo in the wake of the Ashley Madison data dump. Did you see that the other prominent Christian caught in the scandal was forcibly removed from a video blogging conference for threatening someone? … [Read more...]
