Snapshot_20130808_6

by Calulu cross posted from her blog True Love Doesn't RapeVaughn Ohlman's latest scripture limbo playing fast and loose involves braying that it's not possible to 'fall' in love. Why? Well, because falling is mentioned in the Bible as a negative or passive word according to the few scriptures he managed to pull up and glom together to support his point.Hey, join in that FUN game, grab some scriptures and claim they mean all sorts of things it's likely they … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Modesty Prayer?

Quotes1-300x250

by Stacy McDonald of Ladies Against Feminism and Your Sacred Calling  -  Living out Biblical Principles: A Young Woman's Prayer of Chastity I have made a covenant with my body to be discreet and chaste; why then should I flaunt myself before men? Does God not see my ways and count all my steps (Job 31:1,4)? … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Modestly Immodest?

Quotes1-300x250

by Stacy McDonald of Ladies Against Feminism -The New Barely-There Modesty I recently read a disturbing article by a pastor who verbally rolled his eyes at Christian modesty. In his blog post, he was responding in protest to Jessica Rey’s video about the history of the bikini. I’m hoping his attitude doesn’t reflect a trend, but after the defensive attitudes I observed when Soul Surfer was released, I have to wonder. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Modesty is Mutual?

Quotes1-300x250 (2)

by Brett Harris of The Rebelution - The Other Side of Modesty This is strange. Women may be shedding clothes this time of year, but so are men. Why are we only talking about female modesty? If modesty is important then it is important for all Christians. If it isn’t important for men, then why all the fuss about women? If it is important for women, why the silence about men? … [Read more...]

“Defrauding” or How Men Can Keep Women From Stumbling!

by Hopewell - crossposted from her blog Hopewell Takes On LIFE! sourceThanks to TLC's "19 Kids and Counting" America has discovered Bill Gothard's idea of  "defrauding" or making men "stumble." How does this happen? If you watch the show you know it's because someone forgot to call out the code word "Nike" to warn the men and boys to avert their eyes. Without the warning they could see a women immodestly dressed and be led to think unholy or impure thoughts--hence they will "stumble" in their walk with God and be "defrauded." … [Read more...]

The Incredible Helplessness of Men: Lust Edition

lust

by Sierra(Editorial note: I went into Sierra's blog to get a few of her The Sexuality Project posts to reblog here at NLQ and ran across this. While the Edwards-Hunter scandal is now old news the lie accepted by the world and patriarchy that men cannot control their sexual selves needs to be exposed. The deeper truth is that this is another one of those lies patriarchy … [Read more...]

Daughter of the Patriarchy: Stuart of the Lovely Locks

This is an installment of the Daughter of the Patriarchy series. Read the rest here.A couple of days after moving onto campus, Molly informed me that she was expecting a visitor. He was a friend from her Dungeons and Dragons group, coming by to pick up one of his books from their last game. Molly called him “Stuart of the Lovely Locks.”I turned around. “What?”“He has long hair,” she explained. “And it’s gorgeous. I just want to pet his hair all the time.”Of all the weird bonding moments. “I like long hair on guys,” I said shyly, and buried my face in a book. A sequence of long-haired men danced through my brain. I imagined the hair cascading down to his waist, li … [Read more...]

Defrauding: The NLQ Buzzword Project

wholesome-wear

by CaluluI have to admit. I too, just like Sierra, have a problem with Michelle Duggar and her recent comments on the beach and clothing that doesn't fall into the realm of her idea of modesty. These are the only Duggar-approved swimwear available. You might as well be wearing a burkini, at least the burkini is more attractive and modest than these things.Doesn't everyone want to look like a school cafeteria lady at the beach? Here's my rant about it. I never made it to the intellectual depths that Sierra did on the long term repercussions for the Duggar children. It struck me as more of the 'Sex on the brain' syndrome that certain strains of fundamentalism seems to dwell … [Read more...]
