Part 1: A New Hope

homechurches

by Living Liminal cross posted from her blog Living LiminalPlease welcome a great new addition to SASBN - Living Liminal In late 2005, after many years attendance, my husband and I left the church where we had met and been married. We left with sadness because, although we had received from this church much which was good and life-giving, we had come to realize there was no longer a place for us there. (The senior pastor, himself, had declared this to be the case during one of his Sunday morning sermons!)  We knew we were not alone - there had been a steady exodus from this church for some time. The ‘my way or the highway’ approach to church leadership does tend to create casu … [Read more...]

It’s Been a Good Year

by Samantha cross posted from her blog Defeating the Dragons I started blogging in the early part of this year mostly because I was bored to tears. I was working on getting editing jobs, but they were few and far between, and my health just doesn’t allow for outside-the-house employment. I also started writing here because I wanted to finally say out loud a lot of the things that had been slowly germinating over the past four or five years but had never been in a place where I felt capable of expressing them. … [Read more...]

We're glad to have you here!)I recently woke up in the middle of the night, gripped by a sudden panic. What if I’m wrong? If I’m wrong, I’m going to hell.I’ve spent the last several years campaigning to raise public awareness of fundamentalist Christian schools that I consider abusive. I went to such a school myself, so I have a dog in this fight. If what they taught me is true, then I have spent these years fighting against God himself. … [Read more...]

Eighty Four B (84B)

No

by Mari cross posted from her blog Mari's MusesOn I-29 in South Dakota, exit 84B exits onto I-90 West toward Rapid City. I’ve learned this well. I go to Sioux Falls (what I like to call “going to town”) for work a lot, and when you drive the same route several times, you sort of start to pick up on these things. One time I went to Sioux Falls 3 times in a 7-day period. It was awesome! In this blog, 84B is sort of an exit from this (84) to other, somewhat related topics. This morning in church, my pastor was talking about Philippians 1:21- For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. … [Read more...]
