Republican National Committee Wants to Know One Thing: How is Trump Doing?

The Republican National Committee sent a one-question poll to some of Trump’s fans. The republicans want to know one thing: How is the President’s performance?

The e-mail, which is directed to some of Trump’s “best” supporters, only has four responses: Great, Good, Okay, or Other. There are no negative options.

Source: email from the RNC
Are these the only options?

The email, which was sent to me by a reader named David, says it comes “at the President’s request” but is clearly paid for by the RNC. The committee also specified that the poll was “not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.”

The wording is particularly interesting.

The poll doesn’t ask any other questions, which makes it even more notable. It also came just after Washington Post released a poll finding that Trump’s standing with the American people has “deteriorated” since the spring.

“Approaching six months in office, Trump’s overall approval rating has dropped to 36 percent from 42 percent in April His disapproval rating has risen five points to 58 percent. Overall, 48 percent say they “disapprove strongly” of Trump’s performance in office, a level never reached by former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama and reached only in the second term of George W. Bush.”

Trump, of course, responded to the survey. He wrote on Twitter that the poll has a history of being “the most inaccurate.”

Of course there’s no telling why the RNC sent out this email. It could be an attempt to give Trump ammo against Washington Post’s poll and similar reports, or it could be a way to gauge support for the president amid a scandal involving his son and a controversial meeting with Russians.

It could also be a random poll they send out every once in a while, but the timing – combined with the fact that the RNC asked nothing else – points to it being a specific response.

David, a registered independent who sent me the email, said it raised more questions than it answered.

“I honestly have no idea how the RNC connected with me in any case. I’m a registered independent and I never use that email for anything… I’m sure it’s an internal poll for the RNC but I can’t for the life of me figure out why on something internal they’d not want more detail.”

It’s an interesting question. What do you think this is really all about?

"I'm pretty sure it's not, actually. Silly title here."
