News and views on all-things Muslim for April 20-27, 2015.

In this week’s news we read about a new book by Sabaa Tahir, some cool videos, stories about Muslim women being treated badly for their outward appearances, and much more.

I give to you newsworthy links I think you should know about. Check out the links and please let me know if you think I should add anything!

News About Muslims:

U.S. Warship Heading To Yemeni Waters To Intercept Iranian Weapons Shipments, Navy Officials Say. “The U.S. Navy has been beefing up its presence in the Gulf of Aden and the southern Arabian Sea in response to reports that a convoy of about eight Iranian ships is heading toward Yemen and possibly carrying arms for the Houthis. Navy officials said there are about nine U.S. warships in the region, including cruisers and destroyers carrying teams that can board and search other vessels.”

This story didn’t shock me but made me sad nonetheless. ‘The Real’ Shocker: Women Wearing Hijabs Banned From Front Row During Taping? “In February, two women allegedly attended a taping of The Real at the Warner Bros. Studios in Los Angeles, according to CAIR — the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Before entering the taping, studio officials allegedly told the Muslim women that they could not sit in the front row because they should not be seen on camera due to the studio’s policy.”

When will it stop? Islamic State kills Ethiopian Christians in Libya. Islamic State militants in Libya shot and beheaded groups of captive Ethiopian Christians, a video purportedly from the extremists showed Sunday.

Some more depressing stats: How Muslims replaced gays and feminists as the U.S. right’s cultural enemy number one. Let’s hope by telling our stories we change the narrative and the right changes their opinions.
