Annual Spirit Babies Ceremony + Pantheacon

Our Spirit Babies

I've received word that this year's Spirit Babies ceremony will take place on Sunday 12/15 in Berkeley, California, from 12-2pm. It's an interfaith service for those who've been touched by abortion, miscarriage, or stillbirth. The organizers say on their Facebook page: Up till now, there has been little like this in the US. Women experiencing these losses have mostly been alone and isolated. There is a stigma around pregnancy loss, no matter what the cause, and little opportunity to share s … [Read more...]

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day

October 2013 220

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is October 15. At The Amethyst Network, we've been working on making some new images for the purpose of sharing either in advocacy or support. There you can find different buttons designed for sharing on social media or blogs on both Facebook and Pinterest.Tonight, I went to a candlelight vigil in my town in honor of this Remembrance Day. Group Ritual to Acknowledge Miscarriage

So too are those who would like to act as witnesses and keepers of sacred space for those who grieve. The simple altar is laid outdoors on the ground near an already dug hole (for planting a tree). It contains a small bowl, a … [Read more...]

Support during miscarriage

The Amethyst Network

Whenever I've written here or on Facebook about pregnancy loss, I've heard a clear request for more support for Pagans experiencing loss, specifically support that isn't overwhelmingly Christian in language and ideas. I think The Amethyst Network is one organization that can help. Their mission is to provide doula support and "to break the social taboo surrounding talking about miscarriage, and to support, advocate, educate, comfort, and share our stories of loss, grief, and hope."I find it … [Read more...]

Rituals to Honor Miscarriage

“Ritual opens a doorway in the invisible wall that seems to separate the spiritual and the physical. The formal quality of ritual allows us to move into the space between the worlds, experience what we need, and then step back and once more close the doorway so we can return to our lives enriched.” --Rachel Pollack, The Power of Ritual There is no right or wrong way to plan a ritual or ceremony to acknowledge your baby and your miscarriage experiences. Some women may wish to do a “lot,” some wom … [Read more...]
