Service Animals and Familiars

One of my best friends is only three years old. I've watched her grow from a small thing that couldn't even climb up into bed. Rosie, is a Pyrenees and Jack Russel Terrier mix which means she's a medium sized dog who thinks she's a puppy. Her favorite place is on the coach with her head on someone's lap and her feet on the other person. My husband and I both have epilepsy. We've discovered that when one of us is going to have a major seizure, she comes up to us whining and prancing. Rosie is … [Read more...]

International Women’s Day: Women Making a Difference

Today is International Women's Day and I wanted to take a special look at women who have made a difference for people with disabilities.International Women's Day (IWD) began as International Working Women’s Day, Socialist political event primarily for Eastern Europe, Russia, and the former Soviet bloc. Overtime the marches and activism waned. In some countries, it became a day to show love for women in general. In 1975, during International Women's Year, the United Nations began celebrating 8 … [Read more...]

Shocked By a Milestone

A month and a half ago I began praying daily at my altar. The ritual was put into place to help me feel more connected to my spirituality since there isn't a Pagan community in my town. I would fix my hair a bit and light a candle then stand and do breath and energy work.Over the past couple of weeks I've had muscle jerks and mild hallucinations. By mild I mean I knew what I saw wasn't real. And what I did see didn't last long. See through hands might emerge from my abdomen or I would see a … [Read more...]

High Octane Healing

Once in a while I'll write down all the little things that go flying through my mind. A few seconds of a whirlwind of thoughts and images ends up becoming a page or more of notes that take much longer to write. I was reviewing one of these subconscious sessions from a couple of years ago and came across "motorhead elephants offering high octane healing". I immediately got an image of Ganesha decked out in colorful tie-dye and black leather. He slides to a halt spraying gravel looking cool. The … [Read more...]

New Zealand: Healthcare in Other Nations

In the post “Circle Round”, I asked other practitioners with disabilities to join me in learning about different types of socioeconomic systems and how they have been implemented in other nations. Currently in many nations around the world, people are gathering in occupations and protests over these issues. I would like these series of posts to be our opportunity to think about important aspects of society which include: trade, knowledge, interpersonal relationships, culture, health, safety, and … [Read more...]
