Last night there was a live Pagan Centered Podcast recording with Kellee Maize, a female rapper who has a very Pagan-friendly message. We have a natural suspicion of anyone who reaches out to the Pagan community and that, combined with a typo in Kellee’s marketing, meant there some trepidation surrounding the interview. However, Kellee is an impressive lady and very genuine. The interview was excellent and I was especially impressed by her commitment to activism and her love for the city she lives in. Pittsburgh may not be my cup of tea but I appreciate someone who feels connected to the land they live on.
Kellee said she wrote this because she feels she has a genuine connection to Isis.
Kellee doesn’t claim the label Pagan but she is very grounded in earthy, alternative spirituality. The content of her music isn’t a pose but something organic and intrinsic in her life. Which is exciting because her Youtube videos have received over 2 million views and she has over 400,000 album downloads. She’s a rising star, she expresses views in her rhymes that Pagans can identify with and she’s a genuinely interesting person. I’m excited to watch her career develop and hope to be doing the dorky girl shuffle to her performance at a Pagan festival sometime in the future.
Check the pentacle in this video!
You can download her music for free by joining her mailing list at her website. Listen close to the lyrics. There’s a lot of substance flowing with those beats.
Language warning on this video but I really like the message of the song.
