PSG 2011: Appreciation for Psyche’s Grotto

I’ve got a lot I will be writing about this year’s PSG once I get back to the land of plentiful WiFi, but I want to drop a note of appreciation to the folks at Psyche’s Grotto here at PSG. It’s one of the many centers here at PSG providing services to festival goers.

Last year I came to PSG with lots of excess energy and I was gung-ho on very little sleep all week despite the heat. This year I arrived frazzled, exhausted and emotionally worn out. By Tuesday I hit a wall. I simply couldn’t function because I was beyond exhausted and emotionally fragile. Did I give up? Demand to go home? Take out my frustration on those around me? Of course not. I went to Psyche’s Grotto.

Psyche’s Grotto is a very quiet area where you can rest, ground, center, meditate, nap and even talk to someone who is a mental health professional. Which is what I did. I meditated with hematite and rose quartz, and chatted with some of the staff. In a couple of hours I was 200% better all thanks to Psyche’s Grotto and the staff who make it possible. I chatted with other folks who were overwhelmed, got and gave hugs and had a chance to just breathe.

I don’t have all the names, or permission to use the names, of all the staff, but you know who you are. Thanks to Chiron, Truly and the rest of the staff for making my PSG amazing!

Psyche’s Grotto is a brilliant feature of PSG, and I wish more pagan festivals had an equivalent. Having an opportunity to talk face to face with people with credible counseling training who are also going to be friendly to PHA belief systems is priceless.

So how’s everything going there. I haven’t been able to find anything more recent than something dated 6/24 related to the 2011 PSG. My son’s there, incommunicado, of course. Somebody post something where I can see it w/o joining facebook/twitter.

Thanks for the supportive comments.  We at the Grotto feel both a strong responsibility to give to our community and tribe, but also feel a sense of gratitude at the opportunity to practice our skills among people who we care about.  It’s a real blessing.
