13 Songs for Halloween!

For many Pagans Oct 31st is one of the holiest days of the year but it's also a secular holiday devoted to candy and spooky fun. I need to make the 13 songs for Samhain list fit the holiday, but I love all the corny old Halloween songs! So here I go! Getting it out of my system all at once! Crank up the sound and boogie away!Oh, and normally there's no order to this, but my favorite actually is number 1 this time....13. This Is Halloween from The Nightmare Before ChristmasI LOVE this movie … [Read more...]

13 Things I Like About Judaism

Ah yes, it's time again for another 13 things post and I've really been looking forward to this one. Once, many moons ago I was married and wanted wee babies of my own. It was important to me to raise the child in a religious tradition. I had no interest in Christianity and my husband wasn't thrilled about the idea of Pagan kids. So I began to research Judaism. In the end the marriage dissolved, no babies, no conversions to another faith. Although I am Pagan to the core, a part of me has always … [Read more...]

13 Songs for Mabon

The list of songs is a bit darker for Mabon. Partly due to the season and partly due to my current mood. I'm craving darkly ambient, magical music lately. Enjoy and be sure to add links to songs I missed in the comments. What are your favorite Mabon songs?13. Days of Yore - MabonNever heard of these guys before but even from this bad recording they sound interesting.12. Enya - March of the CeltsSimply classic.10. Hugin the Bard - An Oak GrowsI was fortunate to meet Hugin the … [Read more...]

13 Things I Like About Islam

Islam is going to be a tough one for this series. While I have spoken to Muslims through the wonder of the interwebs, I can't really say I know any Muslims and couldn't point you even roughly in the direction of the nearest mosque or halal deli.A lot of the things I hear about Islam are negative, so finding 13 positive things will be both a challenge and adventure.13. AlgebraSo maybe I don't like algebra but I definitely respect it. Muslim scholars made significant contributions to … [Read more...]

13 Things I Like About Catholics

So as I work my way through the major faith traditions I come to Catholicism. In a way this may be one of the more difficult "13 things" because although I do know Catholics I've never set foot in a Catholic church and most of my knowledge of it comes from movies, books and television. Yet even though my knowledge of the tradition is so very second hand, it is such a broad, intricate and old tradition that finding only 13 things may prove difficult, and it has such a body of art associated with … [Read more...]

13 Things I Like About Mormons

So awhile back I did a post on 13 things I like about Protestants in what is meant to be an ongoing series. On a multi-faith site I think it's important to talk about what we really respect and admire about each other, even just on superficial level.  So here I take on the Mormons, and I think as we head into fall I may write about Catholics next. Each faith has it's own contributions to culture as well as deep spiritual insights. Protestantism is part of my past, but other faiths are … [Read more...]

13 Songs for Lammas! Or Lughnasadh! Or First Fruits! Or…

I think what I like best about Lughnasadh is the many names for the festival. The beginning of the harvest is celebrated the world over and it's an exciting time. Berries are ripe on the vine and the fields of grain are ready to be gathered in. By Mabon we'll have apples and as Samhain approaches we'll be eagerly anticipating that first hard frost so we can harvest our winter greens.Once more I'm digging up 13 songs to celebrate the season. Maybe not Pagan but they speak of Lammas to me. Have … [Read more...]

13 Songs for Summer Solstice

My theme is fun fire/sun songs that make you want to sing along or dance. There is not particular order. Enjoy and Blessed Solstice to you all!13. Acoustic cover of Prodigy's Firestarter by Percy Creep I've fallen in love with the Percy Creep videos.12. I'd Like To Know by Meg Hutchinson Simply because "I'm quick to love, quicker to tire. I'm looking for a slower burn, a better kind of fire" is a gorgeous lyric...11. Elvis' cover of Fever Because the King does jazz, baby...10. … [Read more...]

13 Things I Like About Protestant Christians

Yeah, you read right. Patheos is an interfaith site and I think it's important to create a dialogue with other faith traditions. It's true that Pagan religions don't proselytize for the most part but that doesn't mean we don't have things worth sharing, or new things to learn, in a setting of mutual respect.Being raised Southern Baptist, I'd like to start with Protestant Christians. Supposedly if you put all the religions at a table the Pagans and Protestant Christians would be sitting the … [Read more...]
