Eager for Decay: Looking Forward to Autumn

800px-Baby_Pumpkins

Autumn is my favorite season. I revel in it. I read somewhere once that Hel's kingdom was forever a misty autumn, and whether that is true or not, it makes me reluctant to grab hold of a sword when I near death.Loving autumn is a strange thing. Everything is in decline, in decay. Entropy is winning. Those bright leaves? That's the result of trees trying desperately to stave off the inevitable winter. It's a season of death, and I love it.I'm not the only one. Almost everywhere I look … [Read more...]

Merrily Roar Out Our Harvest Home!

I love all the different names our holidays have, and how they are celebrated in different traditions. The Wild Hunt has a nice feature up this morning with a fantastic picture of the Long Man of Wilmington.Supposedly the name Mabon is a recent thing, attributed to Aidan Kelly in the 70's, and it's reference to an obscure character in Arthurian legend has always struck me as odd. What I've really been digging is more traditionally English names for our holidays, rather then the Gaelic ones … [Read more...]

13 Songs for the Autumnal Equinox

I tried writing a post today three different times. Wasn't happening. So maybe we all just need some music. The autumnal equinox, or Mabon, or the Witch's Thanksgiving is upon us. May we be surrounded by love and abundance as we move into the dark half of the year.13. Home Again by … [Read more...]

Thoughts on Autumn

Something I have been longing and yearning for weeks to happen, if not months. The leaves are changing, and with them, so is life changing. My entire being is renewed and refreshed by the sight of a handful of leaves. I have waited for autumn for so long! The heat of summer was oppressive and drear, but autumn, oh … [Read more...]

Mabon Meditations

I adore this time of year. There’s a crispness in the air, the herald of colder, darker things to come. The leaves are just beginning to change into what, in my region of the US, will soon become a riotous panoply of color. I live in the belly of the mountains, in the Hudson River Valley and fall is something to be celebrated here for its beauty alone. It’s as if the lines of varied color show, for a few brief weeks, the very and varied musculature of the mountains, rippling, stretching and pre … [Read more...]

13 Songs for Mabon

The list of songs is a bit darker for Mabon. Partly due to the season and partly due to my current mood. I'm craving darkly ambient, magical music lately. Enjoy and be sure to add links to songs I missed in the comments. What are your favorite Mabon songs?13. Days of Yore - MabonNever heard of these guys before but even from this bad recording they sound interesting.12. Enya - March of the CeltsSimply classic.10.
