Taking A Stand Is Dangerous Business

Taking a stand and speaking your mind has always been a dangerous business. All yesterday I thought of K. Pythia Theocritos' guest post on Daughters of Eve: I can smile, laugh, offer witty comebacks with a hint of “sista-speak”, but never, ever, disagree or venture to correct. In the pagan community I’ve sensed being two steps away from the territory of“uppity negro.” I’ve seen it in the eyes of 40 year old women, hell bent on using their “Irishness/Scottishness” as an excuse … [Read more...]

Pagan Values: Justice, David Barton & the McCollum Decision

A while back, without so much as asking Jason of The Wild Hunt, I kicked off a campaign to get him on The Daily Show to provide a different perspective on David Barton and his activities. Barton's interview made me angry and I knew his organization, Wallbuilders, has been a factor in keeping Patrick McCollum from having his day in court. I sat and fumed. I pondered. So I decided the best thing to do would be have someone informed, but not involved with the case, on to rebut Barton's … [Read more...]

Organized Pagans: Proving Jon Stewart Wrong

Llewellyn has 58k Facebook fans, The Witch's Voice 27k and Witch School has 9,800 fans, yet the campaign to get Jason Pitzl-Waters on The Daily Show to speak about David Barton's attempts to deny our religious rights and the other challenges minority religions face has garnered a far fewer number of fans than you might expect. What makes me sad about this is it proves Jon Stewart right. "Dude, Pagans don't have an agenda. They're Pagans. Organizational skills, eh, not their strong suit." -- Jon … [Read more...]

First Japan, Now The Daily Show

Over $32,000 was raised by the Pagan community for Doctors Without Borders relief efforts in Japan and donations are still trickling in. That's amazing. It's proof-positive that despite our differences, Pagans can work together to create positive change in the world. Which is why I have no doubt that we can accomplish another worthwhile goal: getting Jason Pitzl-Waters of The Wild Hunt on The Daily Show to provide a different perspective on David Barton and the challenges facing minority … [Read more...]

Productive Anger: Get The Wild Hunt on The Daily Show

Some days, anger overwhelms me. Some days it is hard to look at my wonderful friends and neighbors and remember that not all Christians are hateful. Instead, some days all I can focus on is the hateful, to watch them with a wary eye full of distress. When the Washington Times thinks it's appropriate to publish a column stating the Air Force Academy is "pandering" to my "fringe" religion, despite the fact that Pagans have fought and died for this country, I get angry. Around the 1950s, fringe … [Read more...]

Jezebel VS The Daily Show: Pagan Perspective

This morning a story about a war of words between Jezebel and The Daily Show caught my eye in between Warren Buffett acting cute and Lindsay Lohan going to jail. It seemed to suggest The Daily Show was sexist, and as a fan I wanted to get to the bottom of it. So I read all the sides and as a feminist I'm really peeved at Jezebel. Here's the scoop: Jezebel ran a story interviewing women who lost their jobs at The Daily Show and who couldn't get hired at The Daily Show about how the show is run … [Read more...]
