13 Artists I Am Listening To Now

I was going to wax eloquent on magic, but I'm not in the mood.So here's what I find musically interesting right now. Only slightly related to Paganism, although there are Pagan themes and artists in the list... 13. Wendy Rule's The Lotus Eaters album This album should be used as a soundtrack for a film adaptation of the Odyssey.12. Dar Williams' In the Time of Gods album She may not identify as one, but Dar has a Pagan sensibility. Another Odyssey themed album.11. Natalie … [Read more...]

Remembering Earl Scruggs

449px-Earl_Scruggs_2005

I imagine most of my readers are not bluegrass fans. That's ok. Wander on off and The Wild Hunt will have something for you shortly. For the two of you who are bluegrass fans, I'm sorry to say that Earl Scruggs has died.I'm listening to Foggy Mountain Breakdown right now, and my heart is breaking a little. Scruggs innovations in banjo playing have practically provided the soundtrack to my life. I've spent hours at jam sessions with banjo players who looked to him. I've sat mesmerized … [Read more...]

Arrrgghhh!!!!! Blogging!

Been trying to write all day today but too many things are going on and too many thoughts in my head.So I give up.However, as I gear up for tomorrow's post in which I go "Yay! Snakes!" and Jason shakes his head in exasperation as he once again debunks St. Paddy's myths, I have this song on my mind. It's wistful. It's about seeing things differently. Answering calls others do not hear. And in a way, we each do that. We each see the world so differently from each other. Sometimes … [Read more...]

Hear Ye the Voice of the Goddess

How do you see the Goddess? The Divine Feminine spoken of in Wicca and other Pagan religions? Monolithic woman, the essence of femaleness, the open-armed Mother?I relate better to male Gods, but I recently had an experience that reminded me of how I found the Goddess so many years ago. Not her name, or stories. Not Pagan literature, but her bright spirit. It was through a specific type of music. There used to be this alternative rock station in Atlanta called 99X. Once I achieved some … [Read more...]

Sleep Trouble, Tornadoes and “Sexy and I Know It”

I've been having trouble sleeping for awhile now. Couldn't figure it out. I was tired all the time and beginning to fear something sinister like mold. So I stripped the bed yesterday to wash everything and I realized those soft, soft pillows my roommate put on my bed were feather pillows. I'm allergic to feathers.Last night some severe storms swept through my area, including at one point a warning that a possible tornado would be at my doorstep in 20 minutes. My roommates and I decided it … [Read more...]

Mourning Whitney

The music of your childhood will always stay with you. I wasn't allowed to listen to contemporary music often as a child. When I did it was on rare occasions, playing on mall speakers, or, my favorite, driving around with my older sisters. Whitney Houston was everywhere: the radio, the mall, doctor's offices, and television. The cynic in me will make crack jokes. Whitney was no saint. She wasn't a musical genius in the league of Michael Jackson or John Lennon. I'm not going to walk around … [Read more...]
