In the Midst of a Storm

There's an impressive thunderstorm raging outside. I'm sitting here listening to the cracks and booms, to the wind and rain battering my home, and wondering how bad will it get? How long will it last? Is that a long roll of thunder, or a tornado headed my way?And this storm is fiercely beautiful. The power is awe-inspiring and majestic. It's a little scary. It reminds me I'm not in control. That I'm small and helpless in the face of nature's great fury. And in some small way, I am … [Read more...]

My Geis to the Night Sky

Last night, one of my elders took me on a nighttime adventure. In darkness we took an easy hike to a waterfall for some energy work. When there is very little light, moving water seems to absorb all it can get, glowing in an otherwise dark wood. I cannot "see" energy like my elder can. For her the wood was aglow. For me it remained dark, but I could "feel" the pulse and flow of energy, including the resident spirit who moseyed over to see what we were up to.I live in a valley ringed by … [Read more...]

Solstice Fathers

Seems strangely fitting that Father's Day falls so close to the Solstice. In some ways, fathers are like the sun. When we are young they are larger than life, we literally look up to them, bloom under their approval, and our world rises and sets with them.I'm sitting here at PSG with the sun rising over the swimming pond and thinking about my own father. His smile was broad and bright like sunshine. I called it his possum grin. He's the one who taught me to camp and gave me a love for nature. … [Read more...]

Sunshine Chihuahuas

Mercury is mercilessly in retrograde, the news is ever more dire and gas prices are rising. Where do we find the positive? Where is the sunshine? As I'm sitting here working this morning, glancing over the headlines, seeing the depressing news friends are worriedly posting to Facebook and Twitter, and watching The Borgias, a historical show about one of the more corrupt popes in history and his family, I had a sunshiny distraction. I'm keeping an eye on things for friends while they are … [Read more...]

The Magic of Snow in the South (aka Hothlanta)

Georgia, as well as 48 other states, has been hit by what has been affectionately termed Snowpocalypse 2011. As our friends in Florida enjoy balmy climes, people in downtown Atlanta (aka Hothlanta) have ice skated on Peachtree Street and watched all those tv shows they've been meaning to catch up on. Like any born and bred Southerner I stocked up and bunkered in once someone clued me into the weather report (I tend to work/play with blinkers on for days) even though I knew it was possible the … [Read more...]
