Why I’m No Longer A Journalist, But Just A Blogger

Unlike Rory Gilmore, I know it's not my destiny to be like Christane Amanpour.

People keep calling me a journalist, but that's not quite true. I have attempted to act in that capacity in the past with varying levels of success, but no longer. I never made an announcement. I just quietly walked away from that vocation. I suppose I could be considered a pundit of sorts, but that sounds a bit pretentious for what I do.Jason Pitzl-Waters is a journalist, and a damn fine one. He talks about that in a post about his view of journalistic ethics: While The Wild Hunt is today … [Read more...]

Pagan Hangout Playlist and More Good Stuff

So I put all of the Pagan Hangout videos into a playlist, so if you want to catch up you can just hit play and watch while you're folding laundry. They are a lot of fun, so if you haven't watched you are missing out!P. Sufenas Virius Lupus discusses how Pride has become commercialized. The Wild Hunt notes a Wiccan has been denied clergy status by the state of Virginia (the same state the Jefferson was proud of including religious freedom in its consitution).Aidan Kelly has … [Read more...]

Considering Michael York’s “Catastrophe”

800px-Joseph_Mallord_William_Turner_064

I awoke this morning intending to begin a series of meditations upon the Delphic Maxims. Not an easy task, but not nearly as difficult as what I'm about to write. As I began my morning routine of e-mail, rss feeds and social media I read Micheal York's guest post on The Wild Hunt. It's already received quite a reaction, and I'm going to do my best to respond thoughtfully to it because it touches on threads I have been silently weaving with for a long time. There is an End happening. Maybe … [Read more...]

Pagan Soup: Gary Johnson, Wild Hunt podcast and Autism Month

garycara

Cara Schulz Hung Out With Gary Johnson Yup, a presidential candidate hung out with a Hellenic polytheist for a day. Could you imagine Ross Perot hanging out with Selena Fox? Me neither.Cara has written about the experience over on PNC-MN and it's worth a read. Even if you don't agree with his politics, it's refreshing to read something political without it being full of "God! Gays! Abortion!" The Wild Hunt Has A Podcast Jason has created a weekly podcast that looks deeply into news … [Read more...]

13 Reasons I’m Glad Bristol Palin Is At Patheos

Photo: Gage Skidmore

You may be aware that Bristol Palin is writing for Patheos. You likely have an opinion regarding it. I've gotten a few of your opinions, some rather strongly worded. I've had a range of opinions myself on the subject, but once the idea soaked in, I was fine with it. Here's why:13. She's A Troll Magnet We bloggers loathe trolls. They are the bane of our existence. The Palins are so polarizing that there's a chance that Bristol might draw the bulk of the trolls and haters on Patheos, … [Read more...]

Supporting Pagan Journalism

Jason-Pitzl-Waters

People ask me to attend a lot of events. I have to decline a lot. I just don't have the funds to travel. This year I missed out on PantheaCon, but, far more heartbreakingly, I won't be able to attend Pagan Spirit Gathering. I could attend technically, but it would mean eating ramen for a couple of months and putting off needed car repairs. Traveling to Pagan events like this is expensive, and I don't make a lot of money right now. When I came back from PSG last year I had less than 50 cents to … [Read more...]

Pagan Soup: Season of the Witch, Church/Jail, and Culture/Religion

I have been under the weather and now I feel better I've got several things I want to touch on. So I'm going to try to breeze through them quickly. What Church Wants To Be A Jail? One thing I've only seen one person bring up in this church or jail story, is what church wants to be equated with jail? Seriously? And what religious organization wants to develop, staff and implement a rehabilitation program for criminals? Pagans have a hard enough time just keeping basic services for law-abiding … [Read more...]

My Love Affair with Bookstores

The saddest fact of my life is that I live in a county without a bookstore. True, we have a place that specializes in antique books, but particular editions of Gone With the Wind or bejeweled Victorian Jewish prayer books don't fill the craving I get for the literary arts.I can drive 45 minutes north, up Blood Mtn and over the Appalachian Trail, to the amazing Book Nook in Blairsville. A small store owned by really amazing people, it carries titles that always tempt me and I generally leave … [Read more...]

Spiritual Warfare Is Essentially Black Magic

Back in 2000, maybe early 2001, there was a big prayer warrior event aimed at Ephesus. They were praying against the Queen of Heaven, which to them represented Ashtoreth, the Whore of Babylon. As a young virginal devotee of Artemis, I saw it as a direct attack on Artemis of Ephesus. It wrenched my heart then, and makes me tear up remembering it.This isn't a new phenomenon but an organized and concerted effort: Queen of Heaven: Perhaps the most recent development has been Wagner's emphasis on … [Read more...]
