Removing the Veil from the Culture of Plant Medicine

Removing the Veil from the Culture of Plant Medicine June 24, 2016

Were the ancient Israelites who ate the “Manna from Heaven” (Ex 16:20), really tripping out on giant psychedelic mushrooms?

It’s a possibility according to the just released documentary, ‘The Reality of Truth.’ And this is but one of the controversial questions the documentary asks as it probes the use of plant medicine in human history.

And are ‘psychonauts’ (users of psychedelic plants to attain an altered state of consciousness), really ‘psychonuts’ in their quest to connect with universal consciousness – the source and driving force of all creation?

Who is qualified to say? With commentaries from such luminary spiritual figures as Deepak Chopra, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and Marianne Williamson, the documentary unveils profound thoughts on the matter.

Who would have thought, for example, that Bill Wilson the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, was cured of his alcoholism from a psychedelic mystical experience? That was news to me. Or that one or two sessions of plant medicine therapy, could achieve more in twenty minutes, what could take psychotherapy twenty years?

The Trippers

machu-piccho-1102720_640Following a group of curious individuals willing to put the plant medicine experience to the test, the documentary takes viewers to the sweeping, misty backdrop of The Andes in Peru. There under the supervision of native shamans, our seekers participate in the San Pedro Huachuma Ceremony which involves the consuming of plant medicine that has been in use there for 5000 years.

We are also given a glimpse of another ancient ritual, The Ayahuasca Ceremony, involving the use of Ayahuasca, an Amazonian plant concoction, that many believe can induce profound healing and spiritual enlightenment.

Heart of the Matter

In a profit-driven world where pharmaceutical corporations rule the roost (at least in Western society), the documentary challenges us to re-appraise what deep experiental spirituality like Transcendental Meditation and plant medicine, has to offer a fragmented human consciousness in need of healing that is both transformative and endures.

Here at House of Prayer Retreat Center in Alva, FL we are hosting a public viewing and discussion of the documentary tomorrow, June 25. Why not get together with your buddies and watch it for free at The Reality of Truth website.

Enjoy!
