A GHOST STORY Trailer Release

A GHOST STORY Trailer Release March 28, 2017

There are few films that we are looking forward to as much as David Lowery’s A Ghost Story. We’ll obviously post a review of the film closer to it’s release on July 7th, along with, hopefully, a conversation with Lowery. A24 released the trailer this morning. Check it out, along with a synopsis of the film, below.

Is there life after death? What happens to our bodies and spirits when we die? Will we be able to see the world we leave behind? What will happen to our family and loved ones? These are universal questions that people of all faiths—or none at all—wrestle with every day. Different faiths—and the unique expressions of those faiths—posit their own responses to these questions. But the simple fact remains, we don’t know. Perhaps this is why ghost stories and films about the afterlife are so popular. Few filmmakers have taken such a beautiful and meditative approach to the ghost story—and to these questions—as David Lowery has done in his latest film, A Ghost Story. Sure to be one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year, it opens up opportunities for conversation around themes of love, loss, relationships, death, the afterlife, and time itself. Like all great films, it doesn’t take sides, but, instead, lives in the tension of these larger-than-life topics, allowing viewers to engage the film on their own terms.

From A24: With A Ghost Story, acclaimed director David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Pete’s Dragon) returns with a singular exploration of legacy, loss, and the essential human longing for meaning and connection. Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost (Academy Award-winner Casey Affleck) returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife (Academy Award-nominee Rooney Mara), only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away. Increasingly unmoored, the ghost embarks on a cosmic journey through memory and history, confronting life’s ineffable questions and the enormity of existence. An unforgettable meditation on love and grief, A Ghost Story emerges ecstatic and surreal—a wholly-unique experience that lingers long after the credits roll.
